BG Meta Thread
Things are a bit slow. Some things aren't working. But hopefully everything should return to normal over the next few days.
The main problem for now is entering forums, which I think is a SSL issue and should sort itself out eventually.

Re: We are back! (sort of)
I actually tried installing the forum to blueguerilla.org, and after waiting for a long while it still had errors. Then after installing to this subdomain and redirecting to here, it started working. Piece of shit!
Anyway, I just left it here. The other urls (blueguerilla.org and bg.blueguerilla.org) should either be redirecting to here now or will start working soon.

Oh come on, no you are not. You were secretly hoping his username was gone solely for the lulz. You aren’t fooling anyone.

I'm going to keep things simple in regards to styles and extensions.
For now we have 2 styles, the default prosilver and a black one that works with this latest version of the board. If people don't like the black style, I can try and find a better one.

The forum will be down for a little while later in the week, like Thursday and/or Friday. Dreamhost are doing some server upgrades. It might be for a few hours, it might be for a day or 2.

Re: BG Meta Thread
So I'll be off to Japan for 5 days late-ish August. Besides going to lots and lots of second hand game/electronic stores, I'll also be going to:
- Ribera Steakhouse: My ass will sit in a seat that Andre The Giant's ass sat in! And I will eat a big steak or two.
- DisneySea Tokyo: The Indiana Jones ride is supposed to be cool. Hopefully it's working.
- Some tuner car ride around Tokyo. It will be like Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift! But slower and safer.
There will probably be other things too. But that's all I know for now.
In other exciting news, it was hard rubbish week in my area. What free treasures did I find?

2 time AFL Brownlow Medalist Robert Harvey collage. Brand new, these sell for A$500. It doesn't have the Certificate Of Authenticity, but it could probably still go for a couple of hundred on ebay.

A Panasonic mini stereo. I pressed play on the CD, and it started playing Kyle Minogue's Locomotion. Some Aussie Hits compilation CD was in there. The cassette isn't working properly. It plays sometime but mostly it won't start. The rubber band might need changing/adjusting. Still, not bad for a freebie.
There were lots of TVs (LED/Plasma style) and desktop PCs put out. Nothing that looked that great. Also lots of kids bikes.

That is a nice pickup. And 99.99% of any cassette player that doesn't work is the belt. But trust me, it isn't worth opening to try and fix yourself.Dr. Zoidberg wrote: Fri Jun 06, 2025 9:28 pm So I'll be off to Japan for 5 days late-ish August. Unless you have no other way to play a tape.
And it's the most important tape in the entire world.
And you have an endless amount of time.
And you have an endless amount of patience.
And you enjoy mundane tasks.
If ALL of those things are true, it might be worth trying to fix.
MIGHT.
Also, let us know how Japan goes. (And remember to keep your eyes open for a cheap yellow Dreamcast control and VMU for me

Re: BG Meta Thread
By cheap yellow Dreamcast controller, do you mean a normal one that's colour has gone funny or a translucent yellow one?
Because the first kind I'm sure I will see, but the second is unlikely, at least under $300.

Translucent one, and they are out there. And looking at prices on other stuff over there, and from people who've made trips in the past few years it can be done for a reasonable price if the stars align.
The jap spec one isn't as hard to find as the US one.
Of course the Jap spec one is better with its clear back to go with its yellow front, and matching clear yellow controller plug. The VMU is a little harder to find for a good price.
Incidentally, I don't care if the grey parts have yellowed because I'll be putting my NOS Aussie internals and accents in both the controller and VMU when I get one.
I have another friend who went a 18 months ago and picked up the yellow controller, and VMU for 6000 yen each, but he won't part with them because he's wanted them for even longer than I have.
