Question about Red Dwarf

Post by OrangeRibbon »

I finally decided to sit down and watch all of it. I always stopped and started before and got distracted with it. I just finished series 8 and I am watching the first episode of Back to Earth. Did I miss something? Was there a book or comic or something? Also is this the Rimmer that is now Ace or the Rimmer that was remade by the Nano Bots?

There are books, but they are unrelated to the series, and were before 8 in 1999.

And no, after 8 you didn't miss anything, it goes from Rimmer in the alternate universe kneeing death in the nuts to the events of Back to earth in 2009.

You're probably thinking like the cat: Did someone turn 2 pages at once??

Nope, it's just how it goes, and fans have been wanting to see how rimmer escaped at the end of 8 since 1999. (There are actually alternative endings, but since none of them ever received a follow up, they're all as pointless)

There's actually a reference to the end of 8 in I think series 10 or 11, but I won't spoil that you'll just have to watch.
Series 10 is good, as is 12. 11 was a bad series with some great moments.

Naylor wanted to make a movie after series VIII, but couldn't get the funding. That went on for years. Naylor then went back to BBC to do series IX but BBC didn't want to do it by then.

There's actually a video about trying to get more made on I'm pretty sure it's the series 8 DVD.

This is making me hungry for Red dwarf! I'll probably binge the whole thing before the new one comes out, it's been many a year since I watched most of the episodes.

For me Clare Grogan was the best Kochanski

Fun fact too, Gary Kemp wrote Spandau Ballet's "True" about Clare!
