As you can see when I took this screenshot it was at 87F (30C) and had topped out at a whopping 92F! (33C) But I just checked it while making this post and the max is now 96F(35C) That is getting dangerously close to 100F(38C)! I don't want to burn out muh CPU! Should I install water cooling or what?
I'm not sure what the normal idle temps should be but probably something like 68F(20C) and while running something like Prime95 maybe it could hit 96F(35C). With it currently hitting 96F while nearly Idle there is no way I could even run Prime95! It'd probably just up to something insane like 120F(49C) and that would probably be a guaranteed fried chip right there and I ain't talking bout the tater(fish and) kind! I guess I'll just to go easy on'er for now and not run anything too intensive. Maybe I should look into under-volting the chip? I think Leo Laporte mentioned that on an episode of The Screensavers one time and said it can not only lower temps but save money on yo powa bill.
On that same episode I think it was Patrick Norton who explained that many GPUs a.k.a graphic cards can actually run at higher temps than many CPUs including AMD,Intel,Cyrix and believe it or not even an IDT Winchip. Anywho my GPU which is a Super 1660 (AGP 16X I think) is currently idling at 91F(33C) So I might be ok with that temp. Still idk, is it even safe to run electronics at 100F(38C)+?
Would it help to install a 52X CD-ROM(Compact Disc Read Only Memory) and have a disc constantly spinning at fullspeed? My thoughts were that the disc spinning would act as a fan of sorts and blow air to help cool muh system. Thanks in advance my fellow super highway techno-nerds!
