It was a robot that you could buy different cassette tapes for and it would tell you interactive stories and ask you questions. The cassette tape has 4 tracks and the buttons just switch between the tracks to change the story or answer questions. I got one for Christmas in 1992. There was also an older 2-XL that ran on 8-track tapes but I had the update 90s version.

That website is the first time I think I've heard 2XLs voice in close to 30 years! Doesn't hold my attention as much now as when I was 5
but it is need to be able to try it out again.
