Billy Jack Haynes arrested for murdering his wife

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – An arrest has been made after authorities ordered residents in the Lents neighborhood to shelter in place Thursday morning after a reported fatal shooting, according to Portland police.

Police reported responding to a possible shooting at 6000 SE 100th Avenue around 9:52 a.m. For hours, officers said a man they attempted to contact inside had “not cooperated with officers” and may have been armed.

A tactical team with PPB reported that the man “eventually came out” of the home and was detained two hours later.

Police said officers went inside the home and located a dead woman and detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. There is no ongoing threat to the community, according to police.

Police have not identified either the person in custody or the victim, but neighbors say a former pro wrestler lives at the home with his wife.

“He was telling me all kinds of stories about old wrestling and I told him how I used to go watch him,” neighbor Steve Odry said.

“I decided to go for a walk when I saw all the cops down by my house,” Steve Odry, a nearby neighbor, said. “And I just then noticed all the blocks taped off and I just came down here.”

Investigators asked residents in the area of Southeast Reedway Street and Foster Road between 97th Avenue and 102nd Avenue to remain inside with their doors locked. The shelter in place has since been lifted.

Brelynn Matthieu lives in the other unit of the duplex and says this came as a shock.

“It’s just a huge tragedy. I was pretty decently close to both of them and loved them very much. It’s a really sad day, all around,” Matthieu said
