For awhile now I've been wanting a way to hook my PC into things like an old CRT TV or a VCR to record modern things onto tape(just for fun). I saw this on Amazon HDMI to RCA

It was $10.99(it changed to $9.99 like right after I bought it) For the price I half expected it to not even work with a PC or for the quality to be poor. I tried it out earlier and I am very impressed! It worked immediately, as soon as I plugged in the HDMI the image from my PC immediately showed up on the CRT, even the audio comes through.

The quality is pretty good too. Obviously for text or web browsing it isn't great but when you are playing video or a game it looks really good. Here is a video I took of it showing the Dreamcast emulator ReDream running Crazy Taxi 2 on it.

How are the blacks? And often times those cheapies have horrible lag, but on some you can't even tell.

A lot of times digital to analogue conversion and vice versa even when everything else is right, the blacks go a bit fucky.

I suppose you wouldn't notice as much going from 1080P to 480p at max on a smaller tube.

When all my old things break, I'll probably get one of those adaptors. Incidentally HDMI to composite CVBS RCA is about the only kind of conversion I can't do for any kind of video or gaming requirements.

I picked up another CRT yesterday for the low low price of $3! The Gold Seal HY-5500!

It was only $3 and I thought it looked cool! It works, I had Office Space playing on it from a VCR. Now I need to hook my PC up to it! Maybe load up Cuphead. Too bad I didn't have this several years ago or Cuphead running on that would have gotten me a few 100k views!
