Let's go back to our roots and talk about the Dreamcast! (Resident Evil 2)

Post by Calavera »

I was reading something about the N64 release of Resident Evil 2 earlier and it got me thinking how there was also a version for Dreamcast. Most of us used to be huge into the Dreamcast but did any of you play through Resident Evil 2 on the Dreamcast?

I played the Dual-Shock version on PS1. It had some kind of an easy mode that let you have all weapons available and unlimited ammo. I think I played most of the game with the rocket launcher. :olol: Might sound lame but I was like 10 years old, I probably wouldn't have made it far without that easy mode.

To me it seems kind of weird that it also came out on Dreamcast. It came out almost 3 years after the PS1 release which back when I was that age seemed like forever ago. It just seems like if you wanted to play RE2 you would have probably played it by the time the DC version came out. Even weirder is that RE2 also came out for the Gamecube nearly 6 years after the PS1 version! And the GC version is basically the same as the Dreamcast one only much much darker for some reason.

But anyways my question is did anyone here play through Resident Evil 2 on Dreamcast? If so was it the first time you were playing it or did you play the PS1 version first and just played the DC version because you liked the game. The same goes for Resident Evil 3. I never played it at all despite being huge into the Dreamcast and buying any game that I was even a little bit interested in I never had RE2 or RE3. I guess I just wasn't that into RE games. I did however pickup Code Veronica on Dreamcast but barely played it at all.

Played it on the PS1 so didn't bother with the DC version.

Code Veronica was my Dreamcast Resident Evil of choice.

Never finished it on PS1. Never finished it on any other system. And the game is impossible to play these days.

Gave up on the series entirely right at the end of the GameCube era and never had any thoughts of even trying newer ones. I tried to play the original RE1 on PS1 again a little while back. But its aged so, SO badly from a game I was never super into even when I was playing it as a bright eyed kid. I spent about an hour trying to replay resident evil 1 and it was god awful, so I thought 2 might be more fun... It was still awful but not quite god awful.

Although having said that I may try them again on Dreamcast, the console is setup at the moment and my trigger fingers could use a break from racing games.

I want to like resident evil 2, but I just don't think I still can. It's one of those games that I've been telling myself I should finish for the past 20 years, but never will because I'd rather be playing games I'm having a better time with

I played it on PS1 many years ago. It was alright, but I’m not a big fan of horror games.

Same here. And it's too bad because apparently there are a ton of horror games nowadays. The only reason I really played RE2 is because my cousin was into it so I had to play it too. Thinking back I don't know if I ever even beat it. I definitely only played the Leon disc. My Claire disc probably never even left the case.

I tried playing a bit of RE2 here recently but I'm just not interested in it at all.
