The Earthquake thread
A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck south eastern Australia on Wednesday morning. What are our experiences of it?

I ate at Betty's Burgers in late June. Nice burgers.
For non-Australians, that last tweet is parody, due to the federal government giving Sydney money for covid issues but not Melbourne.

It shook the house a lot. For about 30 seconds.
We normally get tremors in country Victoria every few years which get felt in the suburbs, but this was bigger than those.

Re: The Earthquake thread
I was in bed being lazy. My wardrobe began banging and I thought that my dog was scratching against it like usual. But then the bedroom door began banging too and the bed began rocking like a great night in. I ran out to the central hall where my family were standing in the doorway looking worried. The noise was rather loud, the shaking violent, and we all were rather shaken.
It lasted about 30 seconds and just as it appeared to stop it shook a little more several times. Then silence.

Re: The Earthquake thread
I was kind of semi awake about 10 minutes before it hit and couldn't decide if I wanted to get up or go back to sleep and at first I thought it was someone going into the bathroom, and then as it continued I thought I must be dreaming, then I thought it was construction work next door in combination with thunder. It was more than 30 seconds of shaking here probably closer to a minute than 30 seconds and when I finally worked out what was happening after about 15 seconds I was just like oh well I'll go back to sleep unless the roof caves in. So I was back asleep as soon as the shaking stopped for the next half hour.
