The A2MR Metroid fan team is reuniting for an original Metroidvania

Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus will launch on PC and Switch next year



The studio behind Another Metroid 2 Remake, better known as AM2R, is reuniting for a new Metroidvania project.

SquidShock Studios are working on Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus, a hand-drawn Metroidvania title inspired by games such as Hollow Knight and Okami.

The game follows the titular Bō, a staff-wielding Tentaihana, as she uncovers the secrets behind the rise of a mysterious and powerful shogun.



Players will dash, grapple, hover, and bat objects with their staff to defeat powerful foes, overcome obstacles, and discover new, beautiful worlds to explore.

The game initially began development with a two-person team in 2021, however, following a successful Kickstarter campaign, SquidShock added several members to the team from their previous project.

Milton “DoctorM64” Guasti joins as an associate designer, Esteban “DruidVorse” Criado as the QA lead, and Robert “Sephazon” Maloney as the production and publishing lead.



These developers last worked together on the Metroid fan game Another Metroid 2 Remake as the director, lead playtester, and producer, respectively.



The team plans to launch the game on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2023.

AM2R was an unofficial fan remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus. The game updates the 1991 version with colour, a visual style similar to Super Metroid and gameplay similar to Metroid: Zero Mission.

The game was released in 2016 to celebrate the Metroid series’ thirtieth anniversary.



Following the initial release, Nintendo sent several DMCA notices to websites hosting the game, including the official blog and the Metroid Database, forcing their removal and halting the development of future updates.

The following year, Nintendo announced Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS. This was speculated to be the real reason for the aggressive takedown notices, as Nintendo hasn’t taken a blanket stance against fan games in the past, unless they compete with current products.

The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest is a parody/homage side-scrolling platformer that immerses players in an ominous 8-bit world. The titular hero named Simon Quest has just arrived in Transylvania only to discover his vampire hunting rival, Stan Helsing, has already slain the evil Count Dracula. In order to reclaim the glory that should be his, he journeys across Wallachia to gather what he needs to resurrect the dark count piece by piece and kick his ass himself!



Sequence Breaking Encouraged!
In both the overworld and in mansions, there are plenty of alternate pathways (and choices) you can make. You may think every mansion has a linear route, but you'll find there are other paths you can take to clear them! For those adventurous enough to seek an unorthodox journey in the overworld, you can even try taking on later mansions early. In fact, doing so might even yield you a different ending...

Chronicles Of The Wolf Delivers Castlevania Vibes This June, Complete With The Voice Of Alucard

Steam demo now available

Publishers Pqube and PixelHeart have confirmed that Migami Games' Chronicles of the Wolf will launch on 19th June 2025.

Like the developer's previous effort, Wallachia: Reign Of Dracula, this particular title takes a massive helping of inspiration from Konami's Castlevania franchise. Migami Games actually started out creating unofficial fan games based on the series, such as Haunted Castle II (1998), Haunted Castle III: Trevor's Quest (2001), Castlevania: The Lecarde Chronicles (2013) and Castlevania: The Lecarde Chronicles 2 (2017).

Instead of controlling a Belmont, the player steps into the boots of Mateo Lombardo, who wants nothing more than to become a member of the Rose Cross Order.

This Metroidvania pulls in the day/night cycle seen in Simon's Quest, and even goes as far as to enlist the vocal talents of Robert Belgrade, who has worked on the likes of Tekken, Soul Blade, Mega Man X7 and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, in which he voiced the lead role of Alucard. Belgrade will narrate Lombardo's adventure.



Another link to Castlevania's history is the inclusion of Bloodless from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night—the spiritual successor to Castlevania created by Koji 'IGA' Igarashi, producer of the Castlevania franchise during his time at Konami.

Chronicles of the Wolf is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox and PC (Steam), and physical editions will be available for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation consoles. A Steam demo is available now.
