What is a decompilation project? Essentially, it's a "from the ground up" recoded version of an existing video game. As the code is all-new, it's a completely legal way to experience a classic game on a new platform, with enhancements - provided you have access to the original game itself, from which the "decompiled" code draws game assets. Spaghetti Kart is the latest such decompilation effort, bringing the classic Mario Kart 64 to modern platforms. But how good is it? Alex takes a look.

It's the only game You don't have in your collection!
You've purchased 945,448 copies of it so far, but have snapped every one, and then melted all the plastics, then pissed on the melted blob, and then let the dog shit on it. And then dropped the shit and piss covered blobs into a volcano from your helicopter that you use to hunt Atari Jaguar games.

Honestly this is the decomp I’ve been waiting for. I’ve always wanted to play 06, but between the load times and broken levels it was never an option. A decomp gives them the chance to fix both, and though that won’t fix the gameplay, it will go a long way to making it playable.

Woah there! Don't forget the atrocious controls. Or taking all the worst parts of Adventure and making them worse.
Or the humans and every interaction.. oh my fuck the humans.
Or the attempt at a story. I made it a few hours in back in the day.

I retried it a little while back. Hoping the PS3 version and time would make me more open to it. It did not and I made it less than an hour.

If they use it as an excuse to do a full ground up rebuild and change every single aspect of the game, they could make it playable, but at that point you may as well just make a fan sonic game... Which are all better than 06 is.

Can I be real with you? Imma be real with you. I never played 06. I owned it for a time. I did boot it up. But I was so immediately pissed off at the 1 minute load times for everything that I never even made it out of the town to the first level. That and I fell through a bridge when I hit the edge of a rail and clipped through it. So yeah, I actually don’t have much of a basis at all of how bad it truly is.

Remember that fan made tech demo of Sonic Xtreme someone got running on the Saturn a while back?
That had more fun than all I played of 06. Less bugs too.
I wasn't even going to mention falling through the levels of 06, but since you brought it up, yes I fell through the level in the temu sonic adventure part, and the first and second action stages.

I am quite honestly surprised any single person has ever made it past the temu sonic adventure whale chase.. by that point I was quite unhappy but struggled through a little more... For some reason.

Honestly, I think I could watch someone do a let's play of it. As long as I don't have to put up with it, it'd be great fun.

The Sonic community really loves Sonic 06 and Unleashed :olol: I saw the infamous nice smile cutscene and never even tried it.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is easily a top-10 all-time soundtrack for me. The camera and controls are a bit ass but it's one of those games I replay every few years.
