Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

I bought it at 90-percent off during the Summer Steam Sale. It's taken me almost 30 years to realize that I don't like Crash Bandicoot and it's definitely a skill issue. I hate the open pits and I'm having really bad depth perception. I'm feeling a little salty and keep thinking that if it were a Mario game, Nintendo would get absolutely roasted. But when plucky upstarts Sony does it, it's cute and endearing.

A local game store released an app, and as a promo to get people to download it they offered 15% everything on the app. Well I downloaded it and saw they had the Series X priced at $320. After the coupon it was only $270, which is less than half the current new price, so I decided to jump in. I don’t know how much I’ll use it, but it’s nice to have the compete set of Xboxes.
Hell yeah, it's a good Bluray player at the very least.

If the series X had more than Forza Horizon 5 after 5 years, and the $270 you paid was in dollaridoo's, I would have chosen it over a PS5, and gotten it 4 years ago. :olol:

Wasn't gonna pay the same price for a worse system, with a worse controller, and a worse GUI, and no games though.
On deep discount is the only way I see getting a series X as well.

That’s how I pitched it to my wife when she asked if it will work the same as the old Xbox. Even more amusing, the first game I booted was Final Fantasy XIII-2 to see what it looked like with the 4k patch.

Buying the latest gaming system to watch movies and play 360 games, what a mad world.

I'm sure my Series S is impressed that I turn it on every 3 months to play Carcassonne. :olol: If Xbox doesn't have the current gen exclusives, it's got all the Xbox Arcade games I bought in my twenties.

A mild word of warning about the Xbox Series X blu-ray drive: it's the same one that's in the One X/S (circa 2017), so it doesn't play 100GB triple layer discs. So if you buy a 4K movie that's triple layer, it probably won't play it.

It's alright with everything else though.

PS5 plays triple layer discs.

I also bought the Crash Trilogy last week. Never really cared for the Crash games, except for the demo of the first one. Still, for the price, worth a pick up.

Crash Bandicoot was diminishing returns for me, absolutely adored the first game, never really liked any of the others for more than sort of an hour or 2, but liked them enough to at least play every single one on multiple occasions.

Interesting with the 4K triple layer playback. I will admit, I haven't used my One X as a 4K player since I got my PS5, BUT the PS5 is probably the worst DVD player in the world. The quality of simply any DVD on the PS5 is atrocious, while those same DVD's on the same TV with literally any other player ever made including the one X look half way civilised.

I don't even know why they bothered to include DVD playback at all (or why they've kept the red laser on the PS4 even, when it couldn't play CD's)

There's some sort of inverse property law between full-price and cheap/discounted games: The less I spend on a game, the more I play of it. I have to remember that the next time I think I should buy a new AAA game for full price.

I'd blame it on weaponized incompetence. :olol: MS and Sony are hoping for physical media to die off during this hardware generation. My theory is both added half-assed physical disc support just to speed up that process.

Honestly, they could have killed physical media off 20 years ago if the prices on digital storefronts matched discs even 1/10th the time, but the reality is that any time you look for any given game on any given console it's $109-$120 for your standard edition and if you're lucky it'll go down to $80 after a year or 2 for a week, then back to being stupidly priced.
And the exact same new release game on disc is $79-$99 at any given retailer, and quickly drops.
And you can loan it to friends when you're done, and then sell it if you're never playing it again.
I'm under no false impression that a disc is forever, and don't really mind a 20mb disc and then a 150gb download at all... But if I can get a game on a disc for $24 tomorrow, or pay $89 for the same game.. well of course physical media is still the superior option.

Compare that to PC games... I've bought one brand new, full priced, new release, physical PC game in the past 15 years odd (GTA5) and that's because it was cheaper for the disc, but in every other case of PC games, steam actually made it cheaper, while having the convenience so needing physical media on a PC game after about 2005-2006 was simply a novelty. And thats before there was competing PC launchers/stores. :olol:

Same here, but I stupidly bought Cyberpunk thinking it was greatest game ever. The hype got to me :olol:

A pro-consumer digital games marketplace requires either or both:
  1. Privately-held companies who make decisions based on customer sentiment over shareholders (Valve)
  2. Dozens of random key sellers and resellers that drive the prices down via competition or gray-market tactics (GMG, Fanatical)
Epic is churning through its engine game profits to try and chip away Steam's market share. If/when Valve goes public, we're all screwed because either Steam will go down the shitter and/or Epic will be ready to overtake it as the top PC game marketplace. I'm worried that Epic or even Microsoft or EA will gain a foothole by exclusivity (hardware or software) and we will get shafted. If anyone other than modern-day Valve gets a hold of the PC market, we'll be no better off than people who buy Nintendo consoles.

I won't hide the fact that piracy is the ultimate tool for affordable gaming and an open platform like the PC makes that all the more easy/enjoyable.

Duke Nukem Forever (PS3)
Kingdoms Of Amalur Reckoning (PS3)

Langrisser 1 & 2 (Steam)
Mount & Blade: Warband (Steam)

Bloons TD 6

It's official: I'm old. I've been sitting in my inclined bed before bed playing tower defense on my Steam Deck.
