I had digitized an old sound effects record and figured why not pop it on Youtube. I actually have two sound effects records, Volume 5 and 9 I believe. I'm not sure which one this is and thought wouldn't it be funny it if copyright claimed it, then I could see which one it was. It didn't come up with just one copyright claim. It had FIVE''OVUM!
I went through and checked out most of the videos. The 3 or 4 I checked out all did the same thing. Either played the whole 40-50 second sound at either the beginning or end of the song. With a couple of them I could see why a band might want to use them, but 50 seconds of beach sounds and seagulls squawk at the end seems odd.
Is this some bizarre thing that people do to play the Youtube copyright system or just a coincidence? I'm not monetized anyways so it doesn't really matter but it would suck if you were a big youtuber who used something from a 60s-70s sound effect record and some channel with less than 100 subs copyright claims your video. The way I understand it is whoever copyright claims the video gets any money made from it. So how would that work in this case? Do they each get 20 percent of what the video makes? Lol I don't think that will be much on this video!
I don’t understand. How can someone that uses a sound effect in their video claim copyright on the sound effect? Isn’t the whole point of sound effects is that anyone can use it?
