Re: The Sonic Thread
Could they please do this with Sonic 2006. I’ve always wanted to actually try working my way through that game, but the load times were garbage. I mean, technically the whole game was garbage, but I’m willing to at least give it a second try.

This video confuses me because he says it runs on his PC without breaking a sweat, but that video is just absolute full of terrible slowdown.

havent got round to watching it yet though a quick scan through random bits did show it, probably still better than my machine would manage thoughmelancholy wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 1:47 pmThis video confuses me because he says it runs on his PC without breaking a sweat, but that video is just absolute full of terrible slowdown.

Re: The Sonic Thread
This was worth it at a discount, I've had a good time with Origins. It has a challenge/mission mode which I love for old games. It's very addicting to have little puzzles or speedrun challenges that you can keep repeating without penalty. The anniversary mode is pure baby mode and that's okay. Coins replaced lives and coins can be spent on retries in a special stage.pixel wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 1:56 pm Sonic Origins (Xbox)
It was 60 percent off and yeah, it's been pretty fun. Gameplay felt really tight with a wired controller. I'm still going to be mad about the music when I get to Casino Night and Ice Cap zones.
Blasphemy alert: Sonic CD is a bit overrated. I never owned it and it was hard to emulate/play before the Sonic Gems Collection. I don't have much nostalgia for it but CD is still very good. The art style is great, the music is the best, and overall presentation is peak Sonic. The gameplay and platforming are a letdown for me. The stages look fantastic but the other classic Sonic games have better levels.
Instead of a Sega CD, I had the 32X so I played a lot of Knuckles Chaotix. After a fresh replay of Sonic CD, I'd say people need to reevaluate Chaotix because I don't think it's as bad as remembered. It's not great, or better than any of these games, but it was a decent game with good ideas done poorly.
There's a mode in Sonic Origins where you play all the levels from Sonic 1 through S&K in order, here's how I'd rank the experience in chronological order:
- Sonic 1: Perfectly cromulent. A nice time.
- Sonic CD: Looks and sounds great, but the gameplay is boring and frustrating.
- Sonic 2: The first four zones (Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, Aquatic Ruins, and Casino Nights) are the best stretch of the series. The rest of the game is fine. Fuck Metropolis Zone and those robot starfish.
- Sonic 3 and Knuckles: My personal favorite and the best for replaying by rewarding experts.
