On April 8 2024 (ie today - as of the making of this episode) , all Nintendo Network online services for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be shut down, but it does not mean you don't need to stop playing online games. This is all thanks to Pretendo - the community developed Nintendo Network online replacement which is free and open source for everyone to enjoy. All you need is a hacked 3ds or WiiU and about 30 minutes of your time to get set up. In today's episode we take a closer look at the Pretendo service and its features. Please Enjoy!
I will miss that eccentric Wii U/3DS era of Nintendo. The Switch was more than what a Nintendo fan could've ask for, but I could use weird features like Streetpass and Miiverse back again.
I'm sure using Streetpass on a hacked 3DS with Pretendo will net a lot of pings out here. Great project nonetheless!

After the game we can get out our typewriters and send letters to each other about what a fun time we had playing 3DS games online.
Yeah, playing games with actual friends was/is dogshit. Nintendo thinks that adequate friends list functionality will lead to a spike in child abductions. They tried to make amends by making matchmaking as weird as possible.
I liked all the weird online services that made the Wii U seem like an active place. I miss the random Miis walking around on the Wii U home screen, and the random Miiverse drawings in Mario Maker and Splatoon.
