MVG: Stay online with the Nintendo 3DS and WiiU after today

Post by Dr. Zoidberg »

On April 8 2024 (ie today - as of the making of this episode) , all Nintendo Network online services for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be shut down, but it does not mean you don't need to stop playing online games. This is all thanks to Pretendo - the community developed Nintendo Network online replacement which is free and open source for everyone to enjoy. All you need is a hacked 3ds or WiiU and about 30 minutes of your time to get set up. In today's episode we take a closer look at the Pretendo service and its features. Please Enjoy!

I will miss that eccentric Wii U/3DS era of Nintendo. The Switch was more than what a Nintendo fan could've ask for, but I could use weird features like Streetpass and Miiverse back again.

I'm sure using Streetpass on a hacked 3DS with Pretendo will net a lot of pings out here. :olol: Great project nonetheless!

Such a shame... So many good memories of playing Mario kart with Nintendo ID 2636484, Nintendo ID 47473634, and Nintendo ID 37374849.
I'll never forget all the numbers I met playing Nintendo games online!

Seriously why the fuck are people acting like it's a huge loss?

what's your Nintendo ID everyone so we can add each other and not be able to chat in game or even know which friend is which?

After the game we can get out our typewriters and send letters to each other about what a fun time we had playing 3DS games online.

Yeah, playing games with actual friends was/is dogshit. :olol: Nintendo thinks that adequate friends list functionality will lead to a spike in child abductions. They tried to make amends by making matchmaking as weird as possible.

I liked all the weird online services that made the Wii U seem like an active place. I miss the random Miis walking around on the Wii U home screen, and the random Miiverse drawings in Mario Maker and Splatoon.

They had to do something special for the 100 people who bought one even though only 10 took the system online!

Exactly! It made me, Nintendo User #18374328, feel special :ocry:
