In the US, which used to be more albums oriented than singles oriented, they did consider someone who had several hits from one album but never had much success afterwards a one hit wonder.

So, the whole 70's and 80's then?
At least there'll be content for years.

For instance Oasis is considered a one hit wonder in the US. What's The Story Morning Glory was huge, Be Here Now was considered a flop and their other albums didn't really sell much here. So even though for the rest of the world they had hits and sold out stadiums until they broke up they peaked in 1996 to Americans.
With Frankie Goes To Hollywood it's the same thing. Relax was huge, Two Tribes didn't chart well here but the music video was big on MTV. And the rest of the singles didn't do much after that.

We already had Culture Club, that was enough for U.S. listeners I guessian wrote: Sun Feb 25, 2024 7:54 pmI was about to say hang on? Two Tribes was just as big as Relax, if not bigger.
I forgave calling Mike Oldfield a one hit wonder when he clearly wasn't, but I won't stand for this!
Now that will be a great episodeian wrote: Sun Feb 25, 2024 7:54 pm Todd needs to get his head out of his fucking ass and do actual one hit wonders... Like Len!

I heard steal my sunshine the other day out of nowhere, and thought to myself that I don't know anything about len at all aside from that song.
And that song was pretty big here for a while. Possibly even had a bigger impact than wheatus... There was about 1 week where Teenage Dirtbag was an actual anthem and then never heard of or thought of again. But steal my sunshine stuck around in playlists for a lot longer, and even though I don't think it got as high in the charts, steal my sunshine could still be listened to about 2 years later and people would laugh at you but ultimately continue having a good time, but if you put wheatus on a playlist after even 3 weeks you'd be a social outcast.
Len is an ACTUAL one hit wonder though, they had one top 10 hit in multiple countries and then never turned up again.
But I suppose Todd gets more views by calling The Beatles no hit wonders if you consider it from the North Sentinel Island perspective.

Steal My Sunshine was way bigger than Teenage Dirtbag in the US. Wheatus never charted on the top 100 singles but Len hit #9 and was played on MTV a ton that summer. Teenage Dirtbag would have been bigger in the US if it came out two years earlier, because by 2000 the little bit of rock music that was still popular was mostly Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park.

I feel like the charts lie here when it comes to Limp Bizkit. If you look at the singles chart, they are a 1 hit wonder in Australia, their only single to get into the top 10 was behind blue eyes... But they did have 3 albums get into the charts, and chocolate starfish got to #1 (and rightly so)Bandit wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2024 11:32 pm Steal My Sunshine was way bigger than Teenage Dirtbag in the US. if any band should have been a one hit wonder, it was limp Bizkit, but somehow if you liked even one of their songs, you could listen to 50 just as easily. But they had a very limited lifespan. From very late 1999 to 2003 was all that counted and then no one cared anymore, and behind blue eyes getting as big as it did really surprised me, even though I absolutely love it. It's a terrible cover! One of those so bad it's good again pieces of media. So stupid it was brilliant.
Linkin Park actually turned out to keep their fans for a long time and I suspect those die hard fans got non fans into them as well. They had a few singles make it big and stayed relevant on the singles charts for about a decade here. But album wise, Linkin Park are probably the most consistent band ever.

I remember being in a JB in about 2013ish and saw a Linkin Park album in the 3rd spot and remembered thinking "wow, that's low, looks like they're on the way down" and then a few years later seeing them at 3rd again and thinking "wow, that's high, how?"
I've never bought any Linkin Park anything, but even I have a copy of Hybrid Theory somewhere lol.

Behind Blue Eyes is a masterpiece compared to their medley of Motley Crue's Home Sweet Home and Verve's Bittersweet Symphony, which is so awful it's nauseating. Fred sounds like they just woke him up in the middle of the night to sing it.

She was quite the hottie back in the 90s/early 2000s. I didn't care for her music though.

2000s country is a bleak genre in general. The only song I still like would be International Harvester, and that song is cheeks compared to the worst 90s country hits.
