It's nice to see people excited about Sega again.

I'd like a new 2D Golden Axe.

PS2 Altered Beast and PS360 Golden Axe were not good. Hopefully they've learned from those mistakes.

I mean over the years they've released them countless times on countless systems and mini systems, so I would assume at least some of the people who've tried them would want more... Maybe.

Holy shit, that is trending! there's now more people talking about Sega on twitter than who bought Dreamcasts in 1998, 1999 and 2000 combined. :oshocked:

Sega Is "Evaluating" A New Virtua Fighter

"It's something we're working on"

At this year's Game Awards, Sega delivered the welcome news that it is resurrecting some of its classic franchises, including Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and Shinobi on modern-day systems – but some fans noticed that one series that was absent from this list: Virtua Fighter.

Established in 1993, the franchise is regarded as one of the most influential in the realm of one-on-one brawlers; its debut outing is also cited as one of the key reasons Sony decided to focus so strongly on 3D with its 32-bit PlayStation console.

However, while Sega hasn't totally turned its back on the franchise (Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown was released in 2021, while Virtua Fighter 3tb Online is coming to Japanese arcades this year), we haven't had a new mainline entry since Virtua Fighter 5, which first launched way back in 2006.

When Sega first teased its Game Awards announcement, many people assumed it would be related to Virtua Fighter – and while that didn't end up being the case, Sega's Shuji Utsumi has revealed in an interview with The Washington Post (paywalled) that the fighting game series is due a new release:
We are evaluating right now. Virtua Fighter doesn't use so many tricks, special moves like in Street Fighter, it's very realistic. How can we make it more dramatic? It's something we're working on.

Wow I forgot about Eternal Champions. I remember that game being not great. Seems like a weird one to bring back from the dead.

Maybe we'll get a sequel to X-perts! One of the most confounding games I played as a kid.

I checked the Eternal Champions wiki and found a very interesting nugget. Bone Thugs and Harmony based their album E. 1999 Eternal on this freaking game. The Eternal Champions soundtrack is sampled in one of the biggest 90s rap songs:

they cocked up the Ghosbusters bit as the Maser System one being a port of the Speccy/C64/CPC version & the Megadrive/Genesis one was something else entirely, apart from hat an interesing comparison I guess
