Attention all Quest 2 owners the Quest 3 is out!

Post by Calavera »

How many of you here who own a Quest 2 plan on purchasing a Quest 3? Personally I have no desire to purchase a Quest 3. VR was kind of a fad/gimmick with me. At first I thought it was amazing! I first tried VR at my cousin's with his PSVR. I looked through his VR games and picked VR Worlds as it seemed like a good one to start with. I was blown away by how immersive it was. I spent a good 5 minutes at least on the title screen just looking around :olol: The first thing I picked was Ocean Descent and wow was it cool. It felt like I was actually moving and kind of threw me off balance. After that I tried The London Heist and again had a blast.

A few months after that I got my own VR headset an Oculus Quest 2. I started out with the standard first timer things like rollercoasters and the plank game. The rollercoasters were awesome how it felt like I was really moving. The first time I played the plank game I couldn't believe how it actually felt like I was standing up on top of a building. I knew I was just standing in my room but even still it was hard to walk out on the plank. This is goofy but the first time I got down on the floor and crawled out onto the plank. :olol: I tried some other stuff and mostly it was all good fun.

However the "WOW AWESOME!" effect wears off in a few days. The feeling I had at first where games would throw me off balance and make me feel like I was really moving went away once I got used to VR. Once I got used to it I no longer really felt immersed like I did at first. I still had fun with it but it was nowhere near as amazing as I thought it was at first. After the first month of so my Quest 2 mostly sat unused. Every once in awhile I'd power it back up to try some new game I thought looked interesting but I'd end up only using it for a few days at best before it sat unused for another 6 months or more. What made me think about posting this is that I've actually powered it back up to try out a couple things. I've gotten into Powerwash Simulator on the PC and I see there is a VR version so I figure I've got to give it a try. While looking that up I also saw there is a VR 7th Guest. I've got to try it since I had 7th Guest way back when it first came out. If I'm remembering correctly it was the first CD game we bought for our computer not counting the games that came with the CD drive.

So since I barely use the Quest 2 I have no desire to buy a Quest 3 unless it is crazy amazing like the Holodeck or something but I highly doubt that. I know I'm not alone with my experience with VR. I think a lot of people tried out VR then had to buy one for their self only to end up using it for a few weeks before sitting it aside. It reminds me of the Wii where people tired Wii Sports and then had to get a Wii then ended up only playing Wii Sports for awhile before the console sat unused except for maybe when people came over. With the Quest 2 instead of Wii Sports it is Beat Saber. Although I did play a pretty fun Wii sports like game for the Quest 2. Two of my brothers bought a Quest 2. The first one is really into flying and said he would play some flying game on it until the battery ran down. My other brother was visiting the first one and tried Beat Saber and after that said "we're getting one of these" he picked one up from Wal-Mart after he left. Now I haven't really talked to either one of them since then but I can almost guarantee that neither of them have used it in many months. The funny thing is the second brother was one of the people who had to get a Wii at first and then just played Wii sports and abandoned it.

I'm sure the Quest 3 will sell a ton to people who are really into VR but to the more casual audience I'm not sure if they will care to upgrade. I'd imagine there are many in the same situation as me who think "well I never use my Quest 2 so why get a better one that I won't use?"

So anyways my question is how many here plan on buying a Quest 3? And also how many of you are in the same situation as me with your Quest 2?
