Ghostbusters! Master System Edition

Post by Calavera »

I was going through Master System games recently and decided to give Ghostbusters a try. It is the most pointless game I've ever played. On my first playthrough I'm trying to catch as many ghosts as possible to get money to upgrade my equipment but it turns out that is pointless.

Literally all you have to do is pick the cheapest car then at the store only buy the ghost bait after that you just wait. Seriously you just sit there and wait for the PK Energy to go up. So the majority of the game is just unnecessary busywork. When the PK energy gets to the red the ghosts will come together to form the Stay Puft man. When they do that just press button 1 to use the ghost bait and it will stop him and you get $2,000. This happens 4 times and you can re-use the same ghost bait.

After that come the part you actually have to play where you get past Stay Puft then get to the roof and defeat "Gozer"

Here is the only video I could find of someone playing it in a similar way

He is doing a speedrun and for some reason he buys the Super PK Meter,Super Marshmallow Sensor and a trap and then goes and traps ghosts once. I have no idea why he did this since it is not needed. But still in this video you can see how all you have to do is wait. The Master System version is probably the best version of Ghostbusters but it is still pretty lame.

As a small kid I liked it, I don't think I'd ever need to play it again.

I never played the Master System version as a kid but it's probably the first game (if not one of the first games) I can remember playing as a kid on the C64. I still go back and play the C64 version every so often, I even played it this year! :olol:

The C64 was the main version and then it was ported to the other systems. It was designed by David Crane, who made Pitfall. It was the 4th biggest selling game in the UK in 1985.

Of course the most important thing is...

I like that it looks like there's a banana on the hood of the car

It sounds better than the Master System version.
