We Played and Ranked EVERY SINGLE DreamCast Game

Oops, we did it again. We played with your hearts, and got lost in the games. Oh, baby, baby. Remember when we ranked every N64 game? Well say hello to our Dreamcast ranking!

The end of the '90s were sick, huh? On 9/9/99, the sickest day you could release a system, SEGA gave us the Dreamcast; a too good for this world console that flew high and burned bright. Also it would play copies of games you'd burned on CD-R's. It was the best.

Despite the leap in graphics being a little less discernible than generations before, SEGA innovated in every way possible with the Dreamcast. You could kill zombies by typing on a keyboard, raise a fish with a microphone, and play minigames on the VMU memory card. Whereas an alien presumably could have come down in 1997 and seen a N64 controller and said "What is that?", an alien lucky enough to have come down a few years later might've spotted a Dreamcast controller and VMU setup and said, "What are those?"

Basically, the Dreamcast was an improvement in every way. You'll find influential games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Unreal Tournament next to system sellers like Soulcalibur and Sonic Adventure next to superior versions of games that came out on every system under the sun like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Rayman 2 next to little weird games we ought to talk about more like Cannon Spike and Dynamite Cop and holy shit, this was just an incredible console. At 244 North American releases, it's about 50 less than the N64, yet it seems pretty inarguable that the drop-off to forgettable games happens much, much farther down this list. And while this is sure to inspire debate and discussion, we think by the end you'll agree that it was an objectively better system than the Nintendo 64, and that Sonic could definitely beat Mario in a fight.

Episode 382 - Sega was a force to be reckoned with in the arcades, and their Model 1 and later Model 2 boards were revolutionary for their time, bringing us crazy 3D games we didn't think were possible only a few years before. So let's check 'em all out!

After 25 years, Sega is bringing Daytona USA 2 to consoles for the first time

The arcade racing sequel will be playable in the next Like A Dragon entry

Classic Sega arcade racing game Daytona USA 2 will receive its first ever home port, 25 years after it was released in arcades.

That’s according to the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu – read by VGC – which reports that the 1998 racer will appear in Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name as the renamed ‘Sega Racing Classic 2’, in order to avoid rights issues.

Originally, Daytona USA 2 was planned to be released on Dreamcast, but the project was quietly cancelled and a special version of the original, Daytona USA 2001, took its place.

Other arcade games set to appear in the next Like A Dragon are Fighting Vipers 2 (which only received a Dreamcast port in Japan and Europe), Flicky and Galaxy Force.

Previous games in the Yakuza series have let players discover and play classic Sega arcade games. The likes of Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, Virtua Fighter 2, Super Hang-On and Puyo-Puyo have been playable in the past.

In spin-off series Judgment, players were able to play Outrun and then in its sequel, a playable Master System console was available with several games.

Sega’s parent company Sega Sammy sold off the remainder of its arcade business in 2022. Following the sale, Sega Entertainment was renamed to Genda GiGO Entertainment, and all Sega game centres across Japan had their Sega branding changed to ‘GiGO’.

Although Sega’s Entertainment business ran its arcade locations, the company manufactured and sold arcade machines itself separately and will likely continue to do so.

On Sega Dreamcast's 24th Anniversary, I revisit my involvement in what may have led to its ultimate demise.

You see I was deep in the trenches of retail in 1997-1998 helping to spread the word about Sega's new system. Wound up getting a job at one of the largest US retailers and getting the Dreamcast out for rental on 6/15/99, nearly two months before the official launch.

Yep! I was a real champion for the system back then...

This is why it bothers me so much to say I likely had a key in its inevitable downfall and demise.

My Dreamcast has picked up the resetting issue again.
(Been many years since I fixed it)
But this time some sand paper and WD40 is not fixing it.
I think it might be time for a new power supply and hope it's not the motherboard on the way out.

Many options for PSU's. I could try fix mine, get a refurbished one, get a dream PSU or get one of those Pico PSU's and hope it's not the board that's dying, because Dreamcasts cost a bit more than they used to.
