Maybe they don't know how to change the TV to 4:3.

I always put it to 4:3 if playing old systems on a widescreen TV, but 8 & 16 bit games don't look that bad stretched out. Anything that's 3D looks bad though.

I've seen people say that they do this on purpose, I have no idea why because it looks really bad. Old Pal 16bit games don't look any different because they always had that squashed look, even in 4:3 due to being letter boxed.
