Super Mario World Restored

Twitter user lebrickster revealed the Super Mario World Restored project.
Thanks to the Gigaleak, he and his friends we were able to find proper names for many instruments for Super Mario World, which lead to finding the source for those samples.
They are now restoring the OST for Super Mario World with these source samples.

Oh shit Vanilla Dome sounds awesome. The arranged album is one of my favorites of all time, so this great stuff. Can't wait for an SA-1 hack of this.

I had no idea how hammered the samples got, especially the strings. And am I the only one who didn't know that the athletic theme was supposed to be a piano?

Yeah there was definitely some crunch with the S-SMP The original samples give me strong PC MIDI vibes. These unfiltered strings are awfully too sweet for my taste.

And am I the only one who didn't know that the athletic theme was supposed to be a piano?

I think the only reason I made the connection was because of this guy sight reading it on piano:

It goes to show how amazing Yoshi’s Island soundtrack was, when the restored samples don’t sound that much different from the original.
