The final batch of games for Sega's upcoming Astro City Mini console have just been revealed in a livestream, taking the total number of known games up to 36. It was also revealed that the system is getting a full-size arcade stick controller.

There will be 36 games on the machine in total, so we're starting to get a pretty good picture of the overall lineup. Here are the newly announced titles, as well as those we'd already heard about.

Just like SNK's Neo Geo Mini, this new console is set to come with its very own screen and will have all of these games pre-loaded; the remaining games making up the total of 36 will be announced at a later date. If you haven't already, you can go ahead and secure your pre-order right now.

At the beginning of this decade, SEGA Studios Australia was working on a series of reboots of classic SEGA IP, known collectively as the SEGA Reborn series. These included 2.5D reboots of Golden Axe, Altered Beast, and Streets of Rage, as well as an endless runner version of Shinobi, all encompassed in a universal hub world.

Sadly SEGA Studios Australia’s doors were shuttered in 2013, and with it the SEGA Reborn project was lost to the annals of video game history.

Until now.



On the occasion of SEGA’s 60th Anniversary, as a special treat to say “Thank You!” to our fans, SEGA is releasing a working prototype of Golden Axe Reborn, a single level created as proof-of-concept, or what’s known in the industry as a “vertical slice.” We’ve dubbed it, tongue in cheek, as “Golden Axed.”

Golden Axed offers a unique glimpse into the prospect of a project that could have been, and a rare peek behind the curtain at the sometimes tumultuous world of video game development.

We reached out to some of the original development team to bring this dusty gem to light, and they are proud that this project could be revived in some form to be shared with you, the fans.

Wow that's a tempting offer, because it seems like it'd be a pain in the ass to build a racing cabinet. I'd rather just have the cabinet and pair it with a better chair, though. My back hurts looking at that thing

That was my first thought as soon as I saw one. You know people are going to connect some other device (Pi, other SBCs, laptops, computers, etc) so they can play Daytona, Sega Rally, etc.

I shouldn't be surprised, but that there's a healthy after-market community for all these Arcade1up cabinets. But people sell full conversion kits with vinyl wraps and replacement marquees.

If this was an announcement that Sega were going to stop making home consoles, this news would be heartbreaking.

After that, a complete collapse and the name becoming like Atari doesn’t seem so bad.

Good point It's just a shame. Hopefully, if they get bought out by a decent company then they won't turn to absolute shit like Konami.

I'd be fine if Nintendo or MS bought them. Mainly because MS and Sega have the relationship from the Dreamcast days and Nintendo vs Sega have that big history together.
