It's pretty easy. Probably easier than the forum.

Probably no harder than irc, you click the link and login with either a temporary account or make one. You can use it either via browser, windows/mac download, or mobile app.

Discord is great. I never liked Teamspeak, barely used Skype (other than at work), Ventrillo and Mumble just aren't as good as Discord.

We use discord to play Jackbox games online. It's great.

I've never seen anyone in the voice channels, just posting in the text channels.
