New Music 2016

Post by Dr. Zoidberg »

Iggy Azalea - Team

Ladyhawke – Sweet Fascination

Sneaky Sound System - I Ain’t Over You

Sneaky Sound System have returned with their first new music in five years ‘I Ain’t Over You’.

Missy Connie (formerly lead singer of Primary) and Black Angus teamed up to form Sneaky Sound System in 2004 and have released three albums.

The new record features a video shot by George Barnes and Sasha Kenyon in Sydney. “We’d collaborated with George on graphics for our live show, our singles, and Connie’s costumes, and we had the idea of bringing these elements together in a music video. When we were writing the song we always imagined singing it from a mountain top….it’s a song with a big vocal about being strong, even though you don’t roeally want to be, hence the mountain ranges,” Angus said.
Paul Young - L-O-V-E

Paul Young has returned to the studio after 19 years to record an album of new songs with producer Arthur Baker.

The album ‘Good Thing’ comes 19 years after his last album ‘Paul Young’ although Young did release a rather bizarre Swing album ‘Rock Swings’ featuring covers of songs by Metallica, David Bowie and Don Henley is 2006.

‘Good Thing’ is Paul Young back sounding like the Paul Young we knew from his early hits ‘Come Back and Stay’, ‘Love of the Common People’ ‘Everytime You Go Away’ and ‘Wherever I Lay My Hat’.

This album is a labour of love, my soulful dream realised for everyone to now share,” states Paul Young. “I’ve carefully selected and re-recorded some of the most beautiful, iconic and rare soul tracks of all time and I hope people enjoy this album as much as I’ve loved creating it.”

Avicii ft Sia - All I Need

Avicii broke hearts last week with the news of his retirement from live performance, but it appears he's already teasing new material on what is expected to be his final tour.

Over the weekend, the Swedish DJ/producer premiered an unidentified song in Dubai that featured a female singer, whom fans are convinced is singer/songwriter Sia. Since deleted, a fan-shot video of the performance also claimed that Alesso is featured on the track as well.

However, a representative for Alesso tells Billboard that he was not involved with the track. Billboard also reached out to representatives for Sia for confirmation, but had not heard back at time of publication.

The video identified the song as "ID (All I Need)," but there is no confirmation of the song title either.
Skrillex ft Rick Ross - *Unknown Title*

Over the weekend, Skrillex dropped an unreleased collaboration with Rick Ross while performing at Atlantic City’s new WAV Nightclub.

Fans are speculating that the unidentified track could be featured in the upcoming Warner Bros. film Suicide Squad. Some of Ross’ verses reference the film by name, plus the rapper also mentions the purple Lamborghini that the Joker character drives in the film (“got that purple Lamborghini lurkin’”).

Billboard reached out to Warner Bros. representatives for confirmation, but had not heard back at time of publication.

Radiohead - Burn The Witch

After slowly disappearing from the internet and releasing a few short teasers through Instagram, Radiohead has released a stop-motion video for their new song "Burn the Witch." It's the band's first piece of new music since their almost-Bond theme "Spectre," which was released last Christmas, and it's the first single from the band's upcoming, as-yet-untitled ninth studio album. (The band hasn't released an LP since 2011's The King of Limbs.)

The video is set in a stereotypical English village — there's a sign that says "Model Village," just so there's no ambiguity — that quickly turns sinister when its inhabitants get down to the titular witch burning. (It takes place in a giant wooden effigy that looks like something out of Burning Man.) The band has been the subject of intense speculation from fans and listeners since it registered a company called Dawn Chorus, LLP in January, a move that's preceded the release of the last two Radiohead albums. After fans received leaflets titled "Burn the Witch" late last week, the band's social media presence started to slowly fade away on Sunday morning, only to be followed up by two Instagram teasers that ended up containing music and scenes from the "Burn the Witch" video. With a single, a strange promo campaign, and a world tour on the horizon, the only missing piece is a new album, and it could arrive at a moment's notice. Indie rock! Get excited!

Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop the Feeling

Gwen Stefani, Ron Funches and Kunal Nayyar also make cameos.

By now you've probably caught Justin Timberlake's summery comeback tune "Can't Stop the Feeling"...at least once.

The official video for "Can't Stop the Feeling" features cameos from some well-known stars, from Anna Kendrick to James Corden, Gwen Stefani and Ron Funches. But if you look closely, you'll spot someone not as familiar, but just as important...Timberlake's mom Lynn!

"Can't Stop the Feeling" is the pop star's first music in more than two years, and the first single on the Trolls soundtrack, which will be released Sept. 23 on RCA Records.

Timberlake voices the character of Branch in the Trolls film alongside Anna Kendrick, who plays Princess Poppy.

The Stone Roses - All For One

The Stone Roses released a rollicking new alt-rock song "All For One" on Thursday. It marks the British band's first original track since 1994. The single is upbeat Britpop with layered, winsome vocals recalling those on Oasis' "Champagne Supernova."

In March, frontman Ian Brown confirmed the Stone Roses were at work on a new album after speaking with NME outside of Church Studios in London (the space is run by Adele and Coldplay super producer, Paul Epworth). While Brown didn't offer many specifics at the time, he said the recording process was "like a dream."

Late last year, the band also announced a handful of live dates, including three June shows in their hometown of Manchester, England, which quickly sold out. The group will also play Madison Square Garden on June 30th, and have a Dublin gig scheduled for July 9th.

The Stone Roses began to split apart in 1995, a year after the release of their second LP, Second Coming. In 2011, the group reunited for a series of gigs that eventually turned into a world tour and a headlining slot at Coachella. At the time they also announced a new album, though the Stone Roses had yet to debut any new music before "All For One."

The Avalanches - Frankie Sinatra

The excruciating wait for new Avalanches material is over. The Australian electronica outfit has dropped “Frankie Sinatra,” their first fresh recording in 16 years. And there's a promise of more to come.

The enigmatic act’s new track had its global premiere at 12am ET on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, and debuted Down Under on the Triple J network (the state-funded broadcaster rotated its earlier works throughout Thursday in celebration of “Avalanches Day”).

"Frankie Sinatra" takes the Avalanches into hip-hop territory with guest slots from rapper Danny Brown and MF Doom and there's a blend of retro samples, including a surprise grab from the Sound of Music’s "My Favorite Things."

Just minutes after the premiere, the reclusive band posted a message which confirmed the existence of a new album, Wildflower, and offered an apology for the long wait. Guests on the 21-track LP include Father John Misty, Toro y Moi, Jonathan Donahue of Mercury Rev, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux, Camp Lo, Biz Markie, and Warren Ellis of Dirty Three. Wildflower is scheduled for release July 8.

It's been an age since 2000 debut Since I Left You announced the Avalanches as one of the coolest acts on the planet. The cut-and-paste masterwork peaked at No. 8 in the U.K., No. 10 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums and hit all the right notes with critics, many of whom declared the set the best released by an Australian artist in the noughties (it was the only Aussie album to make the NME’s Top 100 Greatest Albums of the Decade list, coming in at No. 45). The group toured in various guises (live and DJ sets) and with various lineups until the mid-2000s.

There’ve been infrequent hints at a sophomore album, though nothing eventuated. A song did arrive in 2013, a remix of Hunters & Collectors’ "Talking to a Stranger" (it was titled "Stalking to a Stranger").

Only came here because the avalanches were in the title..

I saw them in a shitty venue in an alley of Melbourne somewhere in like 2005/6 Entry was $10... There were 100 people there at tops, it was 10:30 at night, and they scratched it. Gave up on them being around in about 2010..

Only thing that kept all of Australian music alive in this entire time was the Gurge!!

Metallica - Hardwired

It’s happening this year! Metallica have just announced that they’ll be releasing their new album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, on Nov. 18. With that news also comes a music video for the feisty, three minute neck-wrecker, “Hardwired,” which can be viewed above.

The eight year drought following Death Magnetic is finally over and Metallica have finally put the rumors of a new album coming out this year to rest. The band had been reluctant to confirm a 2016 release, though drummer Lars Ulrich hinted it would be out this year unless there was some “cosmic reason” to hold on to the record until next year.

“Has it really been eight years? Doesn’t feel like it! Nudge, nudge, wink, wink,” said Ulrich. “We’re obviously beyond psyched to share new tunes with all our friends out there. We’ve been rockin’ along in the studio with Greg on and off for the last 18 months firing up the creative engines again. Putting new music out there, getting in your faces once again and all that comes with it is what we love to do more than anything else, so strap yourselves in … INCOMING!” And speaking of “incoming,” check out the new video for “Hardwired” posted above.

“Hardwired” is a punchy, concise track that opens with a barrage of snare rolls and chugging. Tearing into a breakneck pace, James Hetfield‘s energetic, choppy delivery harkens back to the band’s dominant ’80s sound and an undisputed riffing frenzy. Injecting fleet-fingered guitar fills, Metallica cram a lot of action into just three minutes, raising the intensity with furious double kicks that helped Lars make his name in metal drumming more than three decades ago.
