Should I defrag my hard drive?

I don't think I've ever defragged this drive in the roughly 5 years I've owned it. I had Defraggler analyze it and got this result back



Almost 50 percent fragmented, not too bad right? Sure almost 50 percent is fragmented but that means there is also 50 percent that is not fragmented!

I went against your advice and decided to defrag it I started it before I went to bed last night, the time remaining was greater than 1 day. Eh whatever I'll just let it run. I wake up this morning and check and find out the computer restarted for some reason not that long after I went to bed.

I started again and this time selected quick defrag. So far it seems even slower than a standard defrag. I'm really making progress though

1,019.1GB down to 996.2 GB!

15,767 fragmented files down to 12,500!

234,126 total fragments down to 182,938!

41 percent fragmented down to 40!

In a week or so maybe there will be no fragments left!

Just look at all those beautiful blue blocks! And those numbers! Just compare them to the first picture.

Space Fragmented. Originally 1,019.1GB. Currently 590.8GB. A difference of 428.3GB

Fragmented Files. Originally 15,767. Currently 772. A difference of 14,995 files!

Total fragments. Originally 234,126. Currently 30,027. A difference of 204,099 fragments!

Percent fragmented. Originally 41 percent. Currently 23 percent. A difference of 18 percent!

I'm in the home stretch now only 17 hours to go!
