There's no stopping a game except for weather in the rule book.

Re: The MLB/Baseball topic
OK thanks, I assume it's an original rule since in the modern day you'd think they would amend it. The longest modern day UK sport
This was played over two days so I don't think it was 15 hours continuously.3 - Snooker - Taylor v Davis (1985)
Dennis Taylor and Steve Davis's 1985 World Snooker Championship final is probably the most famous snooker match in history and took almost 15 hours to complete. Taylor lost the first eight frames, but fought back to 17-17. The whole match came down to who could pot the black in the final frame, which Taylor managed, winning the trophy.

Re: The MLB/Baseball topic
According to the rule book these are the reasons
-Inclement weather
-Curfew enforced by law (which doesn't exist anymore unless there's rioting)
-Artificial light failure
-Venue demands (such as if a football game they needed to set up for the next day required the crew in immediately and this only happened once at a Twins game because a college football team had a game they needed to paint the field and put up goal posts for.)

Thanks. I believe a curfew exists here (especially in London) which varies from 10pm til 11pm depending on the event. For example live concerts can't exceed a certain time depending on their location & day of the week. In a heavily populated area I believe the curfew is more enforced too.

I think that's also because public transit is used more in the UK than US. So a concert can't go to midnight if the last bus or train runs at 11. But in the US New York City is the main place most people take public transit and don't own a car, but the subways are 24 hours and even open on holidays. And people drive or get Uber everywhere else.

Yea I believe that's correct about public transport. It's also due to noise (decibel) levels that can't exceed a certain level after a certain time.

Would certainly be a big pick up for the Yankees, however surely they'll have to move players to accommodate his salary?.

Would be huge for Philly if they brought in these two.

It looks like Harper is very close to going to the Phillies, Moustakas with the Padres, and Machado the White Sox. They have 3 weeks before Spring Training.

Forbes are saying the Padres might be in on Manny too
https://www.forbes.com/sites/anthonywit ... y-machado/
Yankees have yet to make a formal offer to him either

Update on Bryce to Philly
I believe they have those 3 weeks before making a final decision.

Re: The MLB/Baseball topic
He had a sad story of having to suffer so other black players could prosper in the future. He was treated terribly and even some of his teammates hated him for his race. But Eddie Stanky was a huge racist that getting to know and like Jackie made him realize he was wrong and he started speaking out against racism. When Jackie was coming in, Stanky was one of the players threatening a strike if MLB was racially integrated. But then he was standing up to defend Robinson when he was being harassed or denied service for his race.

Re: The MLB/Baseball topic
Yea that's sadly true. It's good that Stanky realised that he was wrong with his racist attitude and actually stood up for Jackie when it wasn't the thing to do for a white man. The other Brooklyn Dodgers eventually stood up for Jackie too as even other ball players were racially abusing him. I think Jackie Robinson should be lauded for breaking the color barrier but really it should have never existed in the first place. A lot of Black entertainers in the 50s/60s went through tough situations also. I believe Martha Reeves said when they did the Motown revue down south they shot at the bus and also got treated poorly. But I believe there's a story where they segregated the white and black fans at the shows but at one show they all danced together and things improved from there. This would have been from like 64/65 onwards if I'm correct.

Jose Canseco hunting the paranormal would be the greatest TV show of the year. On the level of that British show that had Shaun Ryder and Bez spending the night in a haunted house.

Re: The MLB/Baseball topic
I'll rarely see Manny now because west coast games don't start on the east coast until 10pm our time and I can't stay up until 1am watching him on week nights. Best of luck to him, though. He's one of the best in the game right now.
