I wouldn’t put Windows on it, but as a storage drive it should be fine. It’s a refurb from a server so it’s lifespan is probably going to be shorter than a new one.

I'd just be using it for storage and game installs. I have Windows on a SSD. I have a 3TB drive but it keeps getting close to full. I've been through many times deleting loads of stuff that was basically just taking up space. As of typing this I'm at 91gb free so I need to just add another drive.

Looking at other drives it seems a decent 4TB is going to cost about the same as that 6GB. I've gotten a refurb drive before that had very low hours on it, but you never know. Plus I've heard bad things about Seagate and their reliability. My current 3gb is a Western Digital drive.

Seeing how it is so close to Cyber Monday I should probably just wait until then and see if they have any deals on hard drives. It is crazy how the prices really haven't come down much since I bought the 3TB I currently have. I paid $95.99 for it all the way back in April 2013! Now here we are over 5 years later and a good 3TB drive is only around $10-$20 cheaper.

I'll keep this one in mind but I'll keep looking and check out the Cyber Monday deals. I also could always make the drive up to Microcenter. It isn't too awful far away, about 60 miles but I'd still much rather order online unless they had some kind of crazy cheap deal that made it worth the drive.


*EDIT I need to read things more carefully! I just assumed this was a SATA drive but apparently is uses a SAS interface which I have not even heard of. It is not compatible with SATA and can not be used on a SATA motherboard. Good thing I looked into it more instead of just ordering it right away. I assume that is probably why it is cheap. I assume a SAS connector is something mainly used on servers and most desktop PCs do not have SAS

looks like sas to sata adapters exist. Seems sketchy though. I would just get another 4tb drive.
