It's going to suck because then you become the Phillies and look at how long it took them to get good again. They were awful for 6 or 7 years.

Re: The MLB/Baseball topic
True, but if they lose Manny in free agency it makes things even worse. At least they might get some good ball players back in a trade. Plus up against the Yankees and Red Sox who are dominating the AL East, if a rebuild takes that long like you say but pays dividends so you can directly compete with the Sox & Yankees I think it would be worth it. Also there's a couple of articles about minor league prospectsBandit wrote:It's going to suck because then you become the Phillies and look at how long it took them to get good again. That Bobby Bonilla deal has to be the absolute worse deal in all sport franchise history. The Mets still have to pay him til like 2035
Must be like winning the lottery every year for him.

Re: The MLB/Baseball topic
It's insane.
What happened was infamous conman Bernie Madoff was in the middle of robbing the Mets owner blind in 1999. So since Bonilla had fallen off as a player he thought cutting him was the best and fastest way to get some money back. But he couldn't trade him because no other team was going to pay him that much since it was a terrible deal for an older player, who was still being paid like the caliber of player he was 5 years ago. He had a iron clad contract so told him he wasn't going anywhere without his $12 million guaranteed money from the 1999 and 2000 seasons. So due to Madoff he didn't have that money, so he had to make a deal with his agent that if they could slowly pay him he'd get interest that turned $12 million into $35 million. So needless to say life is good for Bobby Bonilla and he's probably the one man in the world who likes Bernie Madoff.

Phillies in pole position for Manny. NYY won't give up Justus Sheffield. I'd be in two minds if I was Yankees GM. Manny would with Judge, Stanton et al give you a heck of an advantage and you need it with the Red Sox. But if Justus is one for the future do you wait and see how he progresses. Or will they be kicking themselves if he don't live up to expectations. He's a left handed pitcher so he'd be a good addition coming out of the bullpen and with CC & Tanaka he could be solid backup for them. NYYs farm system is rock solid. Look at the rise of Aaron Judge so I wouldn't give up any valuable players to land Manny Machado. But if you want an instant game changer go for him now. I can't look beyond the Sox this year though winning the AL East.

Manny's gone to the Dodgers

The Os get five minor leaguers back so it helps them in the rebuilding process. They could have lost him to free agency so at least they got something potentially good back.

They should send out cats during boring games to liven things up.

That's a great video. Yep have cats and dogs at the baseball. Wouldn't be surprised if the Japan ball teams had Cat mascots like they have Cat Stationmasters.
