Why do the creators of the Model 3 emulator keep it so damn hidden?

Post by Calavera »

I tried the Model 3 emulator years ago around when V0.2a came out. It worked ok but I had some issues with it at the time. Over the years every once and awhile I'll check supermodel3.com and see that V0.2a is still the latest version for download. I figure this emulator is dead so I head over to the forums to see if they are still active.

To my surprise I find the latest release is V0.3a SVN 626 which appears to have been released on August 9th 2017!!! :oshocked: Why do they do this? They claim it is a WIP alpha and not ready for release? Why? V0.2a is trash compared to the current "Work in Progress" I was playing Daytona USA 2 in 1080p widescreen with no issues at all. 0.2 not only doesn't support widescreen but the opponent cars don't even render correctly. Scud Race also plays perfectly in 1080p widescreen.

I tried Emergency Call Ambulance on 0.2 and it was unplayable, several huge graphical errors. Tried it on SVN 626 and it is pretty much perfect! V0.2 has been on the main page of the site since probably 2011. I just don't get why they wouldn't put the latest releases on the main page. All these years I thought that was the latest version!

One other weird thing about Supermodel is that "since it's an alpha and not ready for release" bla bla it has no graphical interface. Everything is done through the command line. That really isn't a big deal to me but I'd imagine it makes it difficult on some users. Why not make up a simple interface? I just don't understand their thinking!

Anyways if you have any interest in playing some Model 3 games on your PC check out the SVN 626 release. It is pretty amazing how well they run.

It works in LaunchBox for people that don't want to use the command line.

Even though I complained about the command line, I'd prefer that over setting up Launchbox just for model 3  He didn't even set it up 100 percent correctly. He didn't add the fullscreen = 1 command to the .ini or change it from the default resolution. One problem about running it through a frontend like that is as far as I know you can only get the widescreen from the command line. After the name of the rom you type -wide-screen. I haven't found a way to add that to the ini and get it to work.

I just ran threw every Model 3 game released, and out of all of them only three didn't work.

Sega Bass Fishing (wouldn't load at all)
Ski Champ (loads and runs fine but no controls)
Magical Truck Adventure (same as Ski Champ runs great but no controls)

Someone had made icons for all the model 3 games.

I've really never been into using frontends. I prefer having an emulation folder then a subfolder for each system. So I made a batch file for each game and used these icons and put them in a Model 3 folder. No more command line, just a double click away.

Launchbox is pretty nice, especially if you have a lot of games. It pairs well with Retroarch, so controls become a cinch.

After playing all Model 3 games my favorite has got to be Emergency Call Ambulance. It's a pretty short game with only 4 stages, but if you lose at any stage you go back to the beginning. I've played it ALOT so I can now get to the 4th stage on one credit with not much problem. There is one thing stopping me from being able to go through it all the way on one credit. On stage 4 you have to drive perfectly, one mistake and you can't make it. I have no problem with that except for one stupid bridge ramp. Sometimes when you land you keep most of your speed and land at around 60mph, other times when you land it slows all the way down to 35mph and if this happens then you don't have enough time to make it. I've save stated right before the bridge and tried it many times trying to figure out what causes this and I have no idea!
