Microsoft Is Killing Off Paint

Microsoft Is Killing Off Paint

The end of an era is looming. With the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update, that's expected to go into broad release in a few weeks, Microsoft has listed a bunch of programs that are either being removed or deprecated. Paint will be deprecated, with development ceasing on a piece of software that's been a part of Windows since 1985.

Paint is an application that fills a need when you need a tool to quickly do a simple editing or image creation task. I still use it today for cropping and resizing images even though Windows 10 has Paint 3D which can do the same things. But the familiarity of the Paint interface is comfortable and I'm used to it.

Microsoft has released a support document listing the removed and deprecated applications and services. While most are good changes (dropping the "nonsecure security feature" syskey.exe for example) the decisions to end development of Paint severs a link between the most recent Windows build and the very first one.

It's time for the king to return.

GOOD. Syskey is the #1 tool used by fake tech companies to ensure that people pay up to regain access to their computer. Removing them sucks and, depending on the savvyness of the scammer, can sometimes be impossible without wiping the OS. With its removal, I'm curious how they are going to lock people's computers now.

Anyway, I looked at the list and there are some interesting things on there. Like built-in screen savers. I rarely see anyone use screen savers anymore, but that's still a surprising removal. Most of it is system stuff that won't affect the average user, though.

They can't get rid of paint. :( It's seriously the best tool included with Windows.
Say you have to make a million product listings and all you have is about a minute for each, paint is the only tool that can allow you to do it fast enough.

Why don't they axe Edge, or Groove music, or Cortana or even 3D paint.. or any of the windows 10 shit no one uses.
And while they're at it, give me back movie maker and msn messenger.

I remember when we had a Paint contest on DCEmu where we tried to recreate our favorite games in Paint. Good times. I wonder if I still have those on the server.

EDIT: Sure do. We should do something like that here in memory of Paint.

Edit:
Looking at them now they're done and uploaded.. I think the less amount of time and effort I put in, the more accurate the depiction of each game is.
Impossible game was tools only and took about a minute.
Vib Ribbon was freehand only and took about 3 minutes, I had to redo vibri's head 3 times, it looked fucked (more fucked than it currently does)
and loco roco was a combination of tools and freehand and took a painful 5 minutes :olol:

It is kind of weird that they are getting rid of it. I hope the print screen button outputs a file after they delete paint.

Or the reports were true, people lost their shit, and microsoft backflipped. (everything about the xbox one comes to mind) I dunno, I didn't read the original article fully.
But why would you need to remove a basic tool that takes up fuck all resources to both store and operate and have it be downloaded from the store? :dontknow" I mean it's already in windows. If they did it to programs no one fucking wants, I'd get it. If windows just had NO programs pre-installed, and you had to download all the programs you wanted, that would work, that would work REALLY well, then I wouldn't be stuck with fucking onedrive that always finds its way back. :olol:

Next up they'll remove notepad, calculator, command prompt and ease of access tools. They'll be removed, but put in the store so you can download basic computer functions. But edge, er I mean internet explorer, will stay built in. Fucking why?? :olol:

I tried 3D paint, 3D obects don't work well in a simple editor. The lighting and shadows are awful, as is depth perception. Paint is awesome because it's simple, Paint 3D is awful for the same reasons.

3D models are not simple. I want paint included, and paint 3D shoved into the store.

I agree I didn't like using 3D Paint. Paint is fun for doodling and stuff. There's Blender for 3D projects and such.
