Kevin Smith Announces 'Jay And Silent Bob Reboot'
Kevin Smith Announces 'Jay And Silent Bob Reboot'
"This is not a drill!"
Two of Hollywood’s most beloved stoners are returning to the big screen ― and their creator insists he isn’t blowing smoke.
Filmmaker Kevin Smith wrote on social media Thursday that Jay and Silent Bob are “coming back.” “This is not a drill!”
In a rambling post Smith said he wrote the script for “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” in January and hopes to be shooting the film by summer with “an all-star cast of cameos and familiar faces!”
Now this being show business, one can never know for sure. But for fans of the slacker duo (played by the motormouthed Jason Mewes and a mostly quiet but expressive Smith), this is potentially awesome news.
Jay and Silent Bob first appeared in Smith’s 1994 classic indie “Clerks” and became regulars in Smith’s canon. They were featured in his 2001 comedy “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.”

Dante or Randell opted out of Clerks 3? My guess Jeff Anderson said No. He didn't do to many cameos in Smith films after Zack and Miri make a Porno.

Anderson barely wanted to do Clerks 2. Supposedly he's a pain in the ass to deal with. Although others say he just thinks Smith didn't pay him what he thought he deserved. So who knows. I think there was some kind of money issue with 2, though, so it's probably that.

The funny thing is he can be recasted pretty easily. He is just every other guy who lives in NJ. You have no idea how many times I thought I saw him.Bandit wrote:Anderson barely wanted to do Clerks 2. Supposedly he's a pain in the ass to deal with. If you ever wanted to cast a generic white guy, he's your man.
I just kind of remember Kevin saying a long time ago something about he was holding 2 up because he wouldn't tell him yes or no after he gave him the script. I can't remember the reason. Maybe it was just he didn't want to be known as Randal his whole life since he hasn't done much but that role. I haven't followed Smith in a while since I don't like his modern work, so I'm rusty on my remembrance of Clerks 2. But when I heard the movie almost didn't happen I thought they should have made the deleted ending where he's murdered part of the story.

Considering Anderson's reaction when they finished filming Clerks 2, it seems like he'd be keen. I saw some stuff from after the final take in Clerks 2 and he was all choked up at the ending.
He's apparently coming to a con here in my town, I should go and just ask him why he won't do Clerks 3.

Wonder if Kevin will be able to green light the Most Beautiful Girl in the World song this time. He wanted it in the first Jay and Silent Bob movie but they went with Jungle Love instead by The Time. Speaking of which if Morris played the character he did in Purple Rain him and Jerome should have done some comedy movies together. But he was in a Richard Pryor movie with King King Bundy! Jerome was in Under the Cherry Moon with Prince which falls into the cult classic movie territory now. A colorised version would be cool as it was released in B&W. It also contains IMO one of Princes best songs "Sometimes it snows in April". Back to Kevin Smith, like Spike Lee made the doc about MJ I think he should make a Prince documentary movie.

He could probably get estate licensing now. But I can't see the family thinking he should be the guy who makes the documentary. They'd probably want to do something with Questlove or Dave Chappelle. Kevin isn't a big name like he was when he did the Paisley Park documentary.

Re: Kevin Smith Announces 'Jay And Silent Bob Reboot'
Yea that's true. Although I think you'd get a much clearer picture type doc from Kevin. I also think a more independently produced documentary would be more meat and potatoes. Open the vault, talk about the unreleased music, talk to Morris, Sheila E, Jill Jones, Mayte et al instead of the popular artists of the time. A more polished doc would have like Beyoncé et al interviewed and be the "talking heads". Granted she performed with him but I'd much rather hear Morris talk about Prince or Jerome, Jam and Lewis, Alan Leeds etc. I think somebody like Kevin could actually put a Beatles anthology type documentary about Prince. For MJ you've only really got Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad to go into detail about. But with Prince you've got tons of albums, concerts etc to cover. Similarly one about James Brown would be real interesting since his career spanned from the 50s to 2000s and he influenced so many artists Prince included and his music is like a samplers dream. Like Prince he had protege acts, his own label, even his own radio stations. They did make a JB fix but a lot of stuff was glossed over. I think somebody like James Brown, Stevie, Prince et al really need in depth opus type documentaries made. If a more mainstream doc producer made a Prince doc it would be Purple Rain focused mainly but there is much more to Princes music than just PR. So I think have Dave narrate it, Questlove as a talking head, D Angelo, Stevie, Sheila E, Morris, Jerome, Jam and Lewis, Wendy and Lisa, Dr Fink, Andre Cymone, Brown Mark, Alan and Eric Leeds, Susanna, Apollonia, the original NPG, the newer NPG, 3rd Eye Girl, Mayte, Jill Jones, Mavis Staples, Chaka, Larry Graham, Doug E Fresh, Chuck D et al and do the 80s,90s and 00s.
A 2 hour, even 3 hr doc might be cramming in too much so like a 9 hour Anthology doc would be fitting. It might seem too much but because of his influence on popular music in 50 years time I believe Prince will be studied in the same depth as the Beatles. Maybe more so in a Miles Davis type way, but i imagine there will be in depth critical analysis of his music. Especially during his golden period. Or maybe he'll be sadly overlooked like Frank Zappa is. Again I think even Frank deserves a Multi hour documentary because of the multi faceted nature of his music. I think it would be more suited to his core audience there is enough content for the mainstream such as his involvement in the PRMC case.
Going off topic but I think there really need to give credit to Frank Zappa, Prince,David Bowie, James Brown who were basically creating their own unique musical paths really need their true stories told and to educate today's musicians and future musicians. Because I see Bruno Mars, Ed Sheehan et al getting the kudos the true artists deserve. They are more imitators whilst Prince, James and Frank to name a few are the real innovators and they should be getting the plaudits.

You'll have to do at least 4 hours. And even then you're just mainly going to have time for 1999 through SOTT. Hell even 10 hours would probably be mostly that since the 80s were so eventful. And it should just be limited to his work because he was so private. He wouldn't want Mayte talking about the baby and things. Although he wouldn't mind Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis being talked about because he was open about his love-hate relationship with them.

Re: Kevin Smith Announces 'Jay And Silent Bob Reboot'
Yea that's true. But I think giving fans a more intimate look at Prince the person would be cool. Mayte has a book coming out about Prince so I imagine she'll discuss her marriage etc there. For a documentary it would be better if talked about meeting him, her album and being a member of the NPG etc. I think talking too in depth would be unsuitable although for a more mainstream type doc like "Amy" they would I imagine want some gossipy stuff to get non fans or previous fans to check it out. It's a shame there's not a musical equivalent of the 30 for 30s or a network just for music docs etc. Then you could put out multi hour docs on there. When Purple Rain gets a deluxe edition they could easily make a doc for that like they did for MJs Off the Wall. I think there's a few fan made docs which have got good reviews so someone like Kevin Smith could expand upon them.
