Best upgrade to a 1660 Super for $300 or less
The 1660 Super still runs pretty much everything I've tried pretty good at 1080p. I'll eventually have to upgrade at some point. I'm curious atm what would be the best upgrade from a 1660 super for $300 or less.
I probably won't be buying it right now, I'm just curious what a good upgrade from it would be. So if you don't want to take the time to give a recommendation since I'm not actually going to buy it atm I totally understand.

The RTX 4060 is probably the best GPU you can get at that price range.

Thanks for the recommendations Dr. Zoidberg and melancholy. Since I have a job now I might actually upgrade the old 1660 Super to an RTX 4060. I was kind of hoping the price had dropped a little to around the $250 range but it has only been a little less than 2 months since I made this thread.
My biggest issue is do I really even need to upgrade? I still game at 1080p 60hz and so far the 1660 Super has still ran any game I've wanted to play in 1080p. The other thing is that I really don't even game that much at all.

You might as well wait until you really need to upgrade. GTA VI will probably need something beefier to run it, so maybe 2 years from now or whenever the PC version shows up.

It is such BS that a PC version isn't coming out at launch. It wouldn't surprise me if we get a working PS5 emulator shortly after GTA VI releases. I'd really like to play it but I'm PC only. No way am I going to buy a console just to play GTA VI. Everyone knows this but it is so insane that GTA V has been the current GTA game for 11 years now. When GTA V came out Vice City was 11 years old! We should be up to at least GTA 7 at this point if not GTA 8.Dr. Zoidberg wrote: Sun Apr 21, 2024 9:12 pm You might as well wait until you really need to upgrade. It's just the way Rockster do it. They get extra money from the double dippers. The other main thing is that it's one less system at launch that they have to fix bugs for. It's a big open world game, it's going to have issues early on. Most of the big problems should be gone by the time the PC version comes out.Calavera wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 4:29 pm It is such BS that a PC version isn't coming out at launch. And it is shit that it's been so long since a new GTA has come out. GTO fucked things up for people that like single player GTA.

I never got into GTA Online or online games in general really. I've always been a single player kind of guy. I haven't played GTA V in a long time, since around launch and I only played through the story one time. Maybe I should play through it again since it has been so long.Dr. Zoidberg wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 5:01 pmIt's just the way Rockster do it. They get extra money from the double dippers. About the RTX 4060. Around how much of an improvement is it over the 1660 Super? I notice it only has 8GB of VRAM, is that enough. The 1660 Super has 6GB but I figured the next card I'd get would have at least 12GB. They do have a 16GB version but the 8GB ones are around $300 while the 16GB are around $450! Would it really be worth it to spend that much more for twice the ram?
If I did decide to get the 4060 this is the one I'd probably get

A lot. Benchmarks alone mark it at being over 70% faster. And that’s not even including the fact that you can now do raytracing if you want. There’s so much benefit for you to upgrade.Calavera wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 1:02 pm About the RTX 4060. Around how much of an improvement is it over the 1660 Super?
In the past, VRAM didn’t matter too much. Most games never came close to filling it. But that trend has radically changed. Textures are getting so overblown that new games eat up VRAM like crazy.Calavera wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 1:02 pm I notice it only has 8GB of VRAM, is that enough. Let’s just take a new game for example, Star Wars Outlaws. The absolute minimum system requirements to make the game in a state that Ian wouldn’t consider playable requires 6GB. Recommended is 8GB, but it really needs at least 12 to get the best settings. If this is the system requirements for a came coming out in a month, just think of how bad it will be when GTA6 finally launches on PC. That 8GB works now, but it will be a bottleneck in 2 years, and you plan on using this card for 4.

I was also going to mention that you will need at least 12GB VRAM to future proof the card, even at 1080p.
The 5060 should be out early-ish next year.

What about the RTX 3060? A 12gb model is $285 where a 16gb 4060 is $430.

The 3060 is still good. It's only about 20% slower than the 4060 but the 4060 can use DLSS frame gen. That probably won't effect you though, unless you think you will get into using ray tracing.
