Hmm, roughly 1,051 dollarydoos bare conversion.
Add in the GST, and the nice beaches tax, and the fuck you Australia tax, and we're looking at at least $1299 possibly up to $1499 with the new tech, retailers beak wetting tax and FOMO taxes.
That's quite a bit of money for a console.
Thats a fuckload for a console where the disc drive and stand are sold separately and will likely have drifty controls.
Buuuut. GTA 6 will be out next year...
Insert pickles from Metalocalypse: You expect me to pay you five million fucking dollars just so I can get back in my baaaaaaand!?!? I'm gonna pay you aren't I?

Australian prices
It's finally happened. PS5 Pro is real, announced and detailed by none other than lead system architect, Mark Cerny. John, Rich and Alex sit down to discuss the reveal, how Sony chose to market it, the Big Three tech innovations - larger GPU, ML upscaling and RT enhancements - and of course, the shocking price-point.
- PS5 Pro 2TB (Digital) – $1,199.95 AUD
- PS5 Pro 2TB with Disc Drive purchased separately- $1,360 AUD

Re: Sony General Games Thread
The price is ridiculous, buuttt... It's 2025, and GTA 6 has just come out.
Options are:
$800 for a 5 year old console.
Or
$500+ for a used console.
Or
$1,200 for a brand new console based on an old console which finally has a game after 5 years...
...
Or getting an Xbox for the same price as the overpriced base, shitty old PS5.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
The lack of a disc drive won't hugely affect anyone anywhere anyway, it's more useful when game systems had no games, like the PS5 and series X to date. You could at least put a 4K disc in so you hadn't quite felt like you completely wasted your money as you watched your system gather dust for 5 years with nothing to play. But now that GTA 6 is out, (Because it's 2025 remember) you have at least 1 game to play!
And the disc would only stay in the console untill you needed to take it out to play Ken Levine's Judas, whenever that comes out.
So yeah, Sony know they have us over a barrel, because if I'm spending $800 on a product that should cost $300 by now already, May as well pay the extra $400 for a better experience for the 2 whole games the system is about to have.
I mean if I saw a used old one for $300 that wasn't a scam, I'd buy it. But no one can sell them that cheap because they'd have too much buyers remorse that they paid $750 for something they used for 10 hours in the past half decade.
But if they tell themselves it's worth $500, that's only $250 they paid for their ornamental console display.

Re: Sony General Games Thread

But let's be honest here, I'm not going to buy a $700 console anyway. At this point in my life I might become a hermit, play 8 to 32-bit games, and watch movies at 1080p H.264 until my death.

It’s hard to imagine we’ve reached a point in technology where someone could say that a game like FFVII Rebirth’s graphics are so shit that the game is unplayable.

PS6 in Development With Focus on Backwards Compatibility – Report
The PS6 is in development with an emphasis on backwards compatibility, according to a fresh report by Reuters. We certainly weren't expecting to see an unofficial announcement this morning, complete with details of a chip manufacturing bidding war for the console that took place between Intel and AMD.
Intel reportedly lost PS6 chip contract to AMD because of backwards compatibility
According to Reuters, back in 2022, Intel lost a major PS6 chip manufacturing contract to AMD for a number of reasons, one of which is backwards compatibility. Sony's executives and engineers discussed the risk of having backwards compatibility issues if it dropped AMD in favor of Intel, and it didn't help that both companies reportedly bumped heads over how much profit Intel would make from each PS6 chip that it sold.
As a result, Sony and Intel couldn't settle on a price, leaving the door open for AMD to stay as PS6's choice of chip manufacturer following its success with the PS5. Reuters says that the loss of contract dealt a huge blow to Intel, and sought a comment from the company, which provided the statement below:
Reuters says that AMD and Sony did not respond to its request for comment. We strongly disagree with this characterization but are not going to comment about any current or potential customer conversations. We have a very healthy customer pipeline across both our product and foundry business, and we are squarely focused on innovating to meet their needs.

Re: Sony General Games Thread
loved once I found out the entire game loaded into ram so you could take the disc out & put any CD you wanted in for a custom soundtrack, as long as it wasnt a long song/track due to rave length of course

I don’t want to think about how hard it’s going to be to get one of those controllers. But I’m going to try, and put it right next to my DualShock 4 Anniversary controller.
