To be honest, if I bought cheers cards, I'd feel entirely ripped off if every single one wasn't John Ratzenberger in various poses except for one single card which would have to be a hologram of Ted Danson.Dr. Zoidberg wrote: Mon Mar 24, 2025 12:17 am I bought a box of Cheers cards. Making your way, in the trading card world today, takes everything you've got...

Here are a few of the 17 or so Cliffy cards for @ian:

The autos and mem card:

At first, I was disappointed with not getting at least one auto of the main cast, but after looking into the characters (Annie Tortelli and season 1 barfly Jack) I don't mind so much now. I am tempted to buy another box to try and get a big name auto, though.
The little piece of cloth was worn buy Rhea Pearlman on the show. That's as close as I'll get to Danny DeVito.
Overall, they are nice cards. The look, feel and card stock is like something from the 80s.

PSA pauses card grading submissions from outside the US
PSA is making the move to protect international customers from ‘significant tariff expenses.’
The card grading service PSA will no longer take direct submissions from outside the US in response to the Trump administration’s new far-reaching tariffs. In an update on Wednesday, PSA says it’s “reluctantly taking these measures to protect our international customers from significant tariff expenses.”
As noted by PSA, the tariffs are “against the value of the items in the order rather than on the PSA service fee.” That means sending high-value Pokémon or sports cards to PSA would result in hefty fees. Under a 10 percent tariff, for example, a card valued at $5,000 would incur a $500 fee.
Though PSA is pausing international submissions now, that doesn’t mean cards currently at — or in transit — to its facilities will escape additional charges. PSA notes that orders entering the US after 12:01AM on April 5th may be affected by tariffs, and may also face “not-yet-announced” retaliatory tariffs upon return. “PSA will leverage available means to limit tariff exposure for customers outside of the US,” the company says.
PSA has already stopped accepting direct submissions from Canada, China, Hong Kong, and Mexico due to the first round of tariffs imposed earlier this year. However, PSA notes that customers in Canada and Japan can still get their cards graded by sending or bringing them to its physical locations in both countries.

I bought another box of Cheers cards. Let's see how I did.
2 boxes and no main cast autos is disappointing. These 2 autos are more well known actors though than the first box autos, at least.
No pics but there were some other nice inserts as well.

Ive used funds from not smoking for 2 weeks on some SandLand tactical cards. (And a bunch of Nicotine gum, but that was cheap)
The cards are odd in that it isn't a trading card game, it's more sort of a board game and you buy fixed decks, but of course the 10 unique decks they make are all blind boxes as to which one you get.
I will post when they arrive. I was considering some sort of trading cards, but the time to start getting sports cards was like 100 years ago, and the time to start getting Pokemon cards or other nerdy trading cards was 25 years ago, so I missed those boats already.

Sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing what you got.
Pokemon and sports are pretty easy to get into. The base cards are cheap. Common parallels and inserts don't cost that much either.

I honestly wouldn't know where to start with Pokemon cards. I could pickup on some of the others, but I'm not into one piece which seems pretty big these days.Dr. Zoidberg wrote: Fri Jun 27, 2025 2:01 am Sounds interesting. I look forward to seeing what you got.

Even in 2000 there were just so many fakes, and buying options and looking around I could see a big box of Pokemon cards for $150, and then a seemingly identical one but German? For $200.
There's gotta be like a million different Pokemon cards at this point, I'll never collect them all.

Don't worry about buying hobby boxes for now. Just choose your favourite 3 to 5 Pokemon and buy singles off ebay. Even older series base is fairly cheap and they have cool art.
If you want bulk lots, which might come with a bonus or two, you can get a Pound Of PKM for $15 and a Pound Of PKM Holos for $40 from Cherry.

Re: Card Collecting Thread
My cards arrived!!
Here's what a box looks like: Here's where they get you: Every deck has a bunch of common elements. A game board with rules on the back, tokens for gameplay, and 10 cards that make up a nice panorama: Each deck comes with 1 hologram leader card (this deck was Bred and the first I opened), 10 hologram game cards and 20 normal game cards. There's lots of doubles and triples because it's not a trading card game, but each of the 10 decks has different cards: Leader cards have a blue, and every other card in the game is a white background: I managed to get a complete set! All the leaders: And all I needed for a single complete set? 28 god damn sets
:
I've had worse luck in blind boxes getting a complete set (Cough Futurama Kidrobots cough) and to be fair, I only need a second Beelzebub and Thief deck for a whole second complete set now.
opening nearly 30 packets of them highlighted my problem with cards and blind boxes in general. The first time you open a new one you haven't seen yet, it's fun and exciting, but when you need ONE SINGLE deck to finish the lot and you're opening your 3rd and 4th ones you already have, the fun drops to zero.
If I can get the remaining 2 decks I need, I'll have a display set, and a play set, but I'm not buying any more blind boxes unless they're like $1 or 2 dollars a piece.

Re: Card Collecting Thread
The SandLand cards look pretty good.
Cherry had a 20% EOFY sale last week, so I bought another couple of boxes of Cheers cards. Will I finally get an auto of one of the main cast?

Yes, yes I did. The big boi! Sam "Mayday" Malone. It was a relief to get a good one.

A good recurring cast member auto. Hunter and NFL record holder.

A memorable guest star.

These two were meh. I will look out for them next time i watch through Cheers again though.
Here are the patch cards.

Pretty cool.
And a couple of the better inserts.

I actually got 3 autos in one box. It didn't have a numbered parallel though, so the auto must have replaced it.
I'll probably buy another box or two after I get back from Japan. I still want Norm and Cliffy autos.

Re: Card Collecting Thread
Nice!
What's your preferred storage/display method and also sleeve style/brand?
I went into a local store and was instantly totally overwhelmed by options ranging from 8 cents to $80 for sleeves. All I learned was that my cards are standard sized, and the guy in there was trying to sell me the best ones
I said I'd have a look around and just keep the cards in the pack till I decided... because I don't need $5000 of protection on less than $300 worth of cards.
I'm leaning towards dragon shield perfect fit sleeves because they seem to have a good 4 edge seal, and then either PSA grading sleeves to pin or stick to my wall, or just cheap ultrapro 9 card binder sleeves
