Re: The SEGA Thread: This thread does what Nintendon't
I'd rather use my Dreamcast controls andaccessories on modern platforms...
The triggers are hard and now hurt my old man fingers if I try to play for 22 hours straight, the D-pad is almost as unusable as an Xbox 360 D-pad, and the lack of a second stick can be annoying if you try and play any game made after 2008.
But, none have started fucking drifting after 25 years whereas modern controls are lucky to last 25 weeks.

I watched that last night. It would've been wild if the 32X shared the Saturn architecture. I still have two big what ifs from the nineties: the 32X and Al Gore.

I've always wondered what the 32X and 32XCD is truly capable of. Especially the 32XCD as all we ever saw from it was improved FMV games. According to Youtube the 32XCD doesn't work how I would think it does. I would have thought you'd have all the capabilities of the 32X plus the storage space and additional scaling and rotation hardware of the Sega CD. I forget the reason but apparently it doesn't work like that.
But the main problem with the 32X/Jaguar/3DO wasn't the hardware imo. It was the lack of any killer apps. It is crazy that neither the 32X or Saturn had a real Sonic game. I've played Knuckles Chaotix and it kind of sucks. It's OK I suppose but you're not missing out if you haven't played it.

kinda behind you on that Knuckles Chaotix assesment with the slight change of the work 'kind off' to 'totally' for a franchise that was all about gotta go fast what were they thinking tethering characters together so speed was impossible? about the only games close to killer must have titles were Star WArs Arcade (never ported to anything else) & possibly Metal Head, though that might just be me as I rather enjoyed itCalavera wrote: Thu Apr 25, 2024 6:00 pmBut the main problem with the 32X/Jaguar/3DO wasn't the hardware imo. Kart Krew Dev is not affiliated with SEGA. Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers is a work of fan art made available for free, without intent to profit or harm the intellectual property rights of the original works it is based on. Dr. Robotnik and related characters are property of SEGA.
Ring Racers is a Kart Racing video game that builds upon the successes of its predecessor SRB2Kart, with features including:
- A ludicrously long list of courses and playable characters
- A complete Grand Prix mode with CPU opponents and multiple difficulty levels
- New and revamped items
- Unique game systems and mechanics
- Local split-screen multiplayer up to 4 players, and online play up to 16
- A comprehensive Time Attack mode with replay support
- A wealth of secrets to find

Virtua Racing Deluxe was really good, we had a copy of that. Sadly, Knuckles' Chaotix was a half-baked tech demo that could've been a great game. The graphics and soundtrack are top tier, but the gameplay has not aged at all. There were some clever ideas shown in the demo section, but the level designers phoned in the rest of the game. Honestly, Sega should've just scraped the tether gameplay and keep the big roster of playable characters. I'm surprised someone hasn't made a Chaotix ROM hack that removes tethering.Hawq wrote: Thu Apr 25, 2024 7:55 pmkinda behind you on that Knuckles Chaotix assesment with the slight change of the work 'kind off' to 'totally' for a franchise that was all about gotta go fast what were they thinking tethering characters together so speed was impossible? about the only games close to killer must have titles were Star WArs Arcade (never ported to anything else) & possibly Metal Head, though that might just be me as I rather enjoyed itCalavera wrote: Thu Apr 25, 2024 6:00 pmBut the main problem with the 32X/Jaguar/3DO wasn't the hardware imo. Lots of companies (Sega, Atari, 3DO) learned in the nineties that consoles only sell if there are games. 3DO was prohibitively expensive, Jaguar was such a misfit, and 32X was DOA. And none of these companies had nearly the cash reserves of Sony and Nintendo, save Sega before they pissed it all away.
To be successful, any console released between 1994-96 needed to use high-capacity CD-ROM storage. Nintendo got away with using cartridges because they had the cash, software, and business strategy. A dedicated developer could've gotten miracles out of the 32X, but there was no rational business reason to do so. Same with the 3DO after launch, and the Jaguar as well.
