Ubisoft's Star Wars game is reportedly planned for release by March 2024
The open-world title is in development at The Division studio Ubisoft Massive

Ubisoft is reportedly planning to release its open-world Star Wars game in early 2024.
The title, which is in development at Ubisoft Massive, is scheduled for release during the company's current fiscal year ending on March 31, 2024, according to two Kotaku sources.
However, they cautioned that the target is likely too ambitious, and said they expect the game's release to ultimately be pushed to the following fiscal year ending in March 2025.
Ubisoft recently confirmed that its release schedule for the current fiscal year includes Assassin's Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Mobile, Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence, Skull and Bones, The Crew Motorfest, XDefiant and "another large game".
The company will show off a number of its upcoming releases during a new Ubisoft Forward livestream event on June 12.
Announced in January 2021, Massive's Star Wars game is being developed with its Snowdrop engine, which also powers The Division series and the studio's upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
It will be a story-driven, open-world title, according to its creative director Julian Gerighty.
"First, we want to make it a unique game in the saga with a captivating story and set of characters that players can relate to and connect with," he said when the game was revealed. "We want to take what is familiar and resonant about Star Wars and tell the stories of new characters who have their own motivations and stakes."
Last December, Malmö, Sweden-based Massive said it was looking for local playtesters to provide feedback on the game.

Patch 7 lands for Star Wars Jedi Survivor and on the face of it, we're looking at a straight trade. Ray-traced global illumination and reflections effects are gone, with the GPU resources redirected to higher resolution, a smattering of improved fidelity settings - and higher frame-rate. Oliver takes you through a guided tour of the improvements - and the drawbacks - on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, with a quick look at Series S too. We'll be talking about the PC version soon, but it's not looking great.

17 years after its release, the best Star Wars strategy game gets converted to 64-bit
New patch also tweaks multiplayer and fixes "Incorrect unit behaviour".
November is a time for looking back at the past, whether that's through Bonfire Night, Thanksgiving, or in a more recent tradition, randomly patching up old-ass games. Last week, Valve were patching decades-old bugs in Half-Life as part of the game's 25'th anniversary celebrations. Now Star Wars: Empire at War is getting 64-bit support, 17 years on since its release.
Issued as a "maintenance patch update", the headline change in the patch notes reads "Both games have been converted from 32-bit to 64-bit applications". This has been done to "solve many out-of-memory bugs and crashes that players were experiencing."
Alongside this conversion, the patch also addresses "multiplayer out of sync issues," and makes a few balance changes, including fixing "incorrect unit behaviour", because there's nothing worse than your Rebel Alliance rebelling in the wrong way.
While this might seem out of the blue, Empire at War's new patch is considerably less surprising than Half-Life's recent bugfixes. The game has received small annual patches on Steam for the last few years, as a joint project between the game's developers Petroglyph and Star Wars' owners Disney. Last year's patch stopped Coruscant from crashing, while 2021's update added several multiplayer maps. In fact, this cooperation goes all the way back to 2017, when Petroglyph issued a major patch that added features like windowed mode support and removed the thoroughly out of date Gamespy as a multiplayer solution.
Clearly Petroglyph has an enduring affection for its RTS all these years, and it makes sense for Disney to want to keep the current best Star Wars strategy game ticking over, at least until Bit Reactor's game launches. Regardless, it's great to see Empire at War being kept up to date all these years on. The game's huge modding community also means there's plenty of ways to modernise it too, such as the ambitious Empire at War Remake mod.

Star Wars Outlaws will release in 'late 2024', according to Disney post
The open-world Ubisoft title was previously expected to release early in the year

Ubisoft's open-world Star Wars game, Star Wars Outlaws, will be released in late 2024.
That's according to a Disney Parks blog post (spotted by IGN), which quietly listed the release window for the Ubisoft Massive title. Previously, the game was only confirmed to be released sometime in 2024.
"Star Wars Outlaws, the open-world Star Wars game, is set to release late this year," the post reads.
"The game lets you explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. You can risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. If you're willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity."
It was reported last May, before Star Wars Outlaws was officially revealed, that Ubisoft planned to release its open-world Star Wars game in early 2024.
However, in October, Ubisoft said it had delayed a "large game" that it was previously planning to release by the end of March 2024. Although it didn't specifically name the game, it was believed that it was referring to Star Wars Outlaws.
VGC recently covered Star Wars Outlaws in a 2024 preview.
"Will Ubisoft's Star Wars adventure manage to continue the streak of great Star Wars games, or will it fall into the traps that have so homogenized the Star Wars cinematic output as of late?"
