Video Game Chronicles wrote:A “great deal of effort” has gone into making the PS5’s cooling system less noisy.
That’s according to Sony’s EVP European business head Simon Rutter, who was commenting on the PS5’s fan noise in an interview with The Guardian on Friday.
According to a Bloomberg report from earlier this year, Sony has implemented an “unusually expensive” cooling system in PlayStation 5, and Sony Interactive Entertainment has hinted that it has made significant improvements in this area.
A dev kit patent recently suggested the next-gen console would utilise “a plurality of cooling fans” to supply air flow to a heat sink and keep the console cool.
The PS5 console’s design features an unusual shape which appears to house a pair of large vents. As revealed by unofficial PS5 size comparisons, the console is also significantly larger than PS4 Pro, which could be an attempt to reduce noise and improve cooling.
Speaking in a PS5 hardware video earlier this year, Mark Cerny revealed PS5 would feature a “high-performance cooling solution.”
However, the system architect would not reveal exact details of PS5’s cooling solution, only stating that he felt users would be happy with “what the engineering team came up with.”
Sony unveiled the final PS5 hardware design on Thursday when it also announced a second, digital console.
In a reveal stream watched by more than seven million people, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan called the PS5 hardware “our most striking console design yet.”
FreeDVDExploit is a new hack for the Sony PlayStation 2 that has been discovered by Security Researcher CTurt - it allows the user to boot homebrew games on an unmodded PS2 console via DVD Player exploits. In this episode we take a closer look at how it works and what I think I means for the future of homebrew on the PS2.
