Well if they're limited edition... The price is definitely worth it, they'll only increase in value!!!

Shhh, don't give them ideas... it would be too easy to be inspired by Street Fighter 2, and just gonna keep adding words.pixel wrote: Thu Sep 12, 2024 2:26 amian wrote: Wed Sep 11, 2024 4:23 am Well if they're limited edition... The regular model is Limited Edition, but the color ones are Super special limited edition!
Analogue presents the:
Pocket limited edition.
Pocket limited finite edition.
Pocket limited finite restricted ownership edition.
Pocket limited finite restricted ownership COLOR edition.
Pocket limited finite restricted ownership COLOR edition turbo.

Check out our first look at the Retroid Pocket Mini, the latest Android handheld gaming device. With its powerful Snapdragon processor and stunning AMOLED display, the Retroid Pocket Mini can handle everything from native Android games to PS2 emulation. Is it the perfect handheld for you? Watch our video to find out!
It's US$199.The Retroid Pocket Mini is here, so these are my first impressions after a few hours with the handheld. Long story short: yes, it's more expensive than their previous 4:3 devices, and yes, it's worth it (if performance and a gorgeous AMOLED display are important to you).
This one is US$70.The MagicX XU Mini surpassed my expectations in nearly every way. I can't believe how good these budget devices are getting!

Re: The Open Handheld Thread
The RG35XX Plus systems turned out well! I ditched the stock OS and flashed my own SD cards with MinUI. It has an Analogue Pocket-style menu which works better with novices. I think MinUI is unbeatable with the in-game menu alone. All the other OSes leaned on Retroarch for the menu. I've used Retroarch for years and I still hate it.
My parents are in their sixties, they don't deserve that kind of shabby treatment!
I would've gone with a flashier OS with better Libretro core support but none of them supported mapping the in-game menu to the menu button alone. Every OS I tried (Knulli, MuOS) had the in-game menu mapped to Menu+Y which seems incredibly stupid when you have a menu button smack dab in the middle of the handheld.
With 64GB, I got complete ROM sets for Atari 2600, 7200, NES, SNES, GB/C/A, GG, MD/Gen and a selection of PS1 games. My test game was Rage Racer, it ran great!

I might be buying a pair of Anbernic handhelds for us at home after play testing these systems. Build quality is high with a good screen and nice buttons.
If we buy our own, I'll think about getting a larger system. These felt great for 8 and 16-bit games but the controls felt cramped for more complicated games that use the shoulder buttons.

The shoulder buttons on vertical style systems are never that good. They are always a bit awkward to use.

I'm absolutely loving my Anbernic RG40XX H in terms of form factor and controls.
It's the absolute perfect fit for me, and if I could get this form factor, controls, weight and battery life playing PS2, Xbox and GameCube games it would be amazing.
I just wish the screen on mine was a bit better. It's the perfect device aside from a screen that's not as good as most other devices, and in the months and months I've been playing it it's actually developed a bright green stuck pixel. Yes, a stuck pixel like an LCD from 2009... I don't know when it got stuck as I've been playing lot of Gameboy games with Retroarchs green Gameboy overlay. The screen is really pissing me off now because the rest of the device has proven to be FUCKING PERFECT, and it all comes undone at probably the most important part.
My friends with their various Anbernic handhelds all have shit form factors, and controls, and operating systems and none of them have backlight bleed or a stuck pixel on their immaculate screens, and my device which you can actually use for more than 20 minutes is doomed to ewaste the second I get bored of Gameboy games.
If I could get this device basically identical with an OLED screen, I would absolutely buy another one, because it's so amazing in the hand...

Re: The Open Handheld Thread
I'm still using my anbernic one.
I've been playing a bit of Shenmue on it and hit a snag that I got to the end of disc one, and can't save to continue on disc 2. I imagine there is a way to emulate a VMU within the device, but I have hardly tinkered with it in hundreds and hundreds of hours of play and I'm not starting now. Only play, no tinker.
Having the best Gameboy I've ever owned is awesome, it being able to play so much more to a competent level is icing.
Shenmue and Virtua Tennis proved to be fantastic on this thing.
Great device for when I don't have time to sit down and play for a whole day and only have an hour or two at the start/end of my days.
I'll be getting a couple of the cheaper models for some friends to play gameboy games as well.
