I forgot that trench coat goon squad from Harley Davidson and Marlboro Man. I miss batshit action movies too.

HDaMM was one of those movies I caught on HBO in the 2000s and had no idea what it was.

Action movies turned into "You'd better like Fast & The Furious and John Wick sequels."

I was thinking The Rock was going to be the Schwarzenegger/Stallone for the good action movies, but he doesn't know what he wants to do, he's all over the place. He's trying to do Oscar Bait in his next film playing junkie MMA fighter Mark Kerr. And John Cena wants to do comedy. Somebody get Roman Reigns to do the right thing for action movies. He's our last hope.

The Rundown and Walk Tall were pretty good and The Rock is a really charismatic guy. It was easy to guess he'd be a good action star. Patrick Willems has a great video on how Hollywood actors chose business over "art." I had forgotten about Pain & Gain until I watched that.

Game Night and The Other Guys have done more with the action formula than any generic Rock picture like Skyscaper.
