Here's a set of Top of the Pops retrospectives, which are something I've wanted for a long time. It's good to get a nice overview of 80s British music and culture:

That Halftime Show was...interesting. On the whole I didn’t like it, mainly since I didn’t recognize the songs and was REALLY hoping for some surprise guest performers like in previous shows. But I have to admit I liked the presentation, having the performer basically roaming the stadium unhindered by a stage surrounded by screaming fans. It felt more like an actual show rather than a concert, which was a refreshing change.

The Thong Song was never meant for Sisqo, but once he heard the track he couldn’t let it go. Although it was originally meant for Michael Jackson, producers Tim & Bob were won over by Sisqo's enthusiasm and fresh ideas. VICE met the creators of Thong Song to hear how G-strings and violin strings united to create this iconic song that brought thongs to the masses.

Vanessa Carlton wrote “A Thousand Miles” in her childhood home as a teenager. Little did she know the song would become an international smash hit, a film-soundtrack favorite, and would be repurposed by new artists and the internet for the next 20 years.
VICE meets Vanessa Carlton, "White Chicks" actor Terry Crews, and others responsible for making the song the indelible hit still widely adored today.

In 1980 Depeche Mode arrived; Kids armed with synths and squeaky bubblegum tunes. By the end of the decade they had twenty UK top 40 hits and had grown progressively darker, moodier and more industrial, but still pop. However in the US they were not mainstream, known mostly by listeners of anglophile college radio DJs and seen along with The Smiths, Cure, New Order and XTC as “alternative.” This cult appeal had made them one of the biggest US concert draws of the late 1980s, but they couldn't back that up in album sales. 1990's Violator would change that. And alongside “Personal Jesus,” its second single would solidify that after a decade as a band they could have the biggest songs of their career, defining Modern Rock-crossover hits in the process. This is New British Canon and This is the story of "Enjoy the Silence."

It's always weird seeing Seal with hair. Killer is a great song though.

I like this version better than Seal's re-recording of it a year later.

Faithless. So many memories of their music blaring while me and a bunch of other gothy college kids danced our asses off or tried lamely to get laid in the two big dance/goth clubs by my college back in 1996/1997. We never did (actually we cockblocked each other most of the time) but damnit, memories.
