No way it's been 30 years without him. I feel like I just saw him in some films recently.
I did see him in some films recently, in fact I see him quite a lot.
but they're all classics now.

It really sucks we missed out on 30 years of John Candy movies.
Losing him and Farley at a young age really affected me. I had self-esteem issues growing up chubby, so they were kings. It meant a lot to me that these overweight guys were so famous. The movies are absolute classics: Uncle Buck and Planes Trains and Automobiles are still watched at least once a year.ian wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2024 12:56 pm No way it's been 30 years without him. Now as a 37 year old myself, it's absolutely tragic that his family lost John Candy at 43.

And he wanted to do more drama to be recognized as like Robin Williams as an actor who can do it all.pixel wrote: Fri Mar 08, 2024 5:06 amBandit wrote: Tue Mar 05, 2024 12:26 pm

I remember when Farley died too. I had just watched Beverly Hills Ninja on HBO and was thinking about how funny he was. A few days later he passed away.

Twitter is a great platform. I saw video of a couple rawdogging it doggystyle when I searched for "Oscars 2024." Kudos to Elon for getting unfiltered hardcore porn in the timeline.

Poor Things has to be the Oscar-winning movie with the most scenes of graphic sex ever. I still need to watch Oppenheimer and the others. I almost made it through The Leftovers, but that was a good one too.

Re: General Movie News
I might see some of those movies one day. in the mean time I rewatched some John Candy movies I haven't seen in a while, and a couple I watch all the time. Sure his good ones are really good but I still haven't seen the last 2: Canadian Bacon and wagons east) but I doubt they're as bad as the great outdoors.
Spaceballs is his funniest role and the funniest movie he was in, so far the great outdoors is the worst, and he's still the best part of the movie, I can't explain what happened to Ackroyd, you can put Ackroyd in some pretty bad crap and he usually does a good job, this felt phoned in though.
I have watched all the movies on CRT because charm, my TV's also hide a lot of the grain, which 80's movies all have. Even the 30'-70's didn't have as much grain as the 80's.
The raised awareness of the heimlich maneuver now that it's won all the oscars is a good thing though.

Re: General Movie News
I haven't watched them since the 90s so maybe I'd enjoy them more as an adult, but I didn't like either of them. Wagons East was especially disappointing because John Candy and Richard Lewis should have done a great film but it's just a bad copy of a Mel Brooks movie without Mel Brooks jokes.ian wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:10 am I might see some of those movies one day. in the mean time I rewatched some John Candy movies I haven't seen in a while, and a couple I watch all the time. That's the biggest crime: Just how half-assed Wagons East was.Bandit wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:23 am I haven't watched them since the 90s so maybe I'd enjoy them more as an adult, but I didn't like either of them. I do need to watch Canadian Bacon again. It did not get great reviews in the pixel household, but then the reviewers were under the age of 15. I've wondered whether adult me would like Canadian Bacon more than The Great Outdoors. The latter is pretty funny as a kid that has gone on vacations like that.

I liked the great outdoors when I was younger, but it just hasn't held up in my eyes. If John Candy wasn't in it, I simply would not have rewatched it or even finished it if I was watching for the first time today.
An interesting one is Splash. I didn't like it as a teen, but as an adult it's not as bad as I remember.
This was a film I actually read a review on before I watched it back in the day and Ebert said something along the lines of they miscast Hanks and Candy.
He was spot on then, now I'm not so sure. Hanks did a really good job in making this stupid concept of a film work.

I do remember Rip Torn being hilarious in it. But of course because he's Rip Torn.pixel wrote: Tue Mar 12, 2024 1:36 am I do need to watch Canadian Bacon again.
