In a new Retro PC Time Capsule video, John and Alex go back to cross-gen gaming, 2006-style, with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Join us for a look back at a time where Xbox 360 out-performed mainstream PCs by a long chalk, resulting in some games receiving almost completely different versions of the 'same game'... and not even Ageia PhysX support can help PC on this one! Meanwhile, it's a sorry state of affairs once we get to look at the PS2 version of the game...
'
The reviews must flow! And the spicy subject here is the first computer game adaptation of Dune, made by Cryo Interactive and Virgin Games in 1992. Take control of Arrakis as Paul Muad'Dib Atreides, reclaiming spice mines from the evil Harkonnens and forming a Fremen army to dominate the planet! Early 90s MS-DOS game goodness.

In late '94, after a completely wild development journey, Sony releases the PlayStation in Japan, followed by launches in the United States and Europe a year later. Despite a rocky start, the console gains traction, benefiting from an extensive promotional campaign, the piracy rampant and, more importantly, Sega's numerous missteps with the Saturn and the lack of games on the Nintendo 64. Gradually, the PlayStation establishes itself, eventually dominating the market and overshadowing the competition, thanks to omnipresent third-party publishers and a continuous stream of game releases.

However, after this resounding success, Sony faces an even more challenging task than conquering the video game market—doing it a second time in the most competitive context in history. Sega gains ground with the Dreamcast, Nintendo continues its streak of legendary games that revolutionized the industry on its previous console, and a new player enters the scene: Microsoft, with its highly anticipated and promising new console. This marks the epic journey of the wildest console in history, the one that completely redefined the standards of a gaming console, this is the story of the PlayStation 2.

Audi Sorlie is back, joining John Linneman for the first of two Nintendo Game Boy specials. Each of them picks their top three titles for the classic Nintendo handheld, with the other actually playing them! In this first instalment, John's picks are the focus with Castlevania 2: Belmont's Revenge, MegaMan 5 and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening in the frame as his top three games of the entire Game Boy generation.

It's been a while, but the Nintendo DS just got a brand new flash cart from the EZ Flash Team! In this video I'll go over its features, pros and cons, and whether or not it's worth picking up.

It's 2024 and companies are still out here creating new flash carts for the Nintendo DS. In this video, we review the new EZ-Flash Parallel "R4" cart for the DS to see if it is worth buying.

This is an old DOS game I used to play called Skyroads. I don't think I've mentioned it before but it holds up very well and is worth playing. You basically have to jump from platform to platform while also controlling your speed. In later levels your Oxygen and Fuel drain fast and certain colored tiles will re-fill it when you pass over them. Different levels also have different gravity so on some you'll jump real high and on other you can barely jump at all.

I think Skyroads could make for a pretty good mobile game if they found a way to automate the speed control so then you'd only have to focus on left right and jump. Swipe left, swipe right and tap to jump.

If you've never played it I highly recommend you give it a try. It's a good game if you just want to play something for a few minutes but you can also get kind of addicted to it and play for an hour! You can download it here

If you enjoy it and want more there is also an X-mas edition

Back in the 90's if you wanted to make backups of your Super Nintendo cartridges, you'd need a game backup device, also known as a SNES disc copier. These devices would allow you to dump almost every SNES cartridge to one or more floppy discs, but they were also a tool for pirates to copy discs completely removing the need for an original cartridge. In today's episode we take a closer look at one such SNES back up device known as the Pro Fighter X Turbo. Please Enjoy!

I swear I saw a Super Wild Card or Game Doctor at the local Software Etc./Gamestop around the time I bought my Gameboy Color. It seems farfetched for a major retailer to be selling one in the mall. But I remember learning about them in the early DCEMU/Consolevision days and kicked myself for not asking my parents to help buy one.

My piracy habits were not only tolerated, but encouraged by them. :olol: Nowadays there's a store that flagrantly sells bootleg NES/SNES minis and those all-in-one arcade sticks.

That seems vaguely familiar. Like I played it at a friends house when I was little...

I know I've played a game that was either that or very close to that.

There is an earlier version called Kosmonaut

Maybe that is the one you played?
