Re: Nintendo General Thread (Switch 2 announced)
I wouldn't doubt if this easy-to-brick situation only occurred with the prerelease firmware, to discourage early hackers. The system will have to be updated tomorrow anyway, so such issues wouldn't affect regular users.
That said, yeah, it can be a larp.

Let us know how you enjoy THE game.
(Let's be real, it only has Mario Kart untill Donkey Kong comes out)

In the end it took about 2.5 hours, which still sucks.
I thought I'd try another game just to test download speeds, Fortnite is 35GB and will take about 2 hours.

Re: Nintendo General Thread (Switch 2 announced)
Software-based backwards compatibility probably makes sense so that Nintendo can lock out any Switch 1 hacking methods. Gene Park was posting about Hyrule Warriors yesterday. He says that the game runs at an uncapped framerate so there are instant gains on the Switch 2 without a patch for some games.

Here's a quick ranking of where the Switch 2 rates for Taki Udon among the existing screens and their screen replacement kits

The speeds being kinda slow makes sense, it's a brand new toy that half a billion people all want to download stuff at the exact same time.Skynet wrote: Fri Jun 06, 2025 8:38 pmIn the end it took about 2.5 hours, which still sucks.

Also when you're playing Mario kart, aside from your quick review of the game, let us know what you think of the screen (unless you're playing docked) I saw a couple of side by sides that make it look terrible next to the OLED... BUT I haven't seen a 2 in person yet and I'm not trusting the general internet for an honest opinion anymore.
(I'll decide If I hate it eventually, but I'm too cheap to do it now

Re: Nintendo General Thread (Switch 2 announced)
I actually played it handheld, not docked.
It was fine. But I also don't have an OLED Switch or Steamdeck to compare it to (I'm cheap, I'm not rebuying a Switch for a third time and Steamdeck for a second time just for OLED)
Look, it looked fine, but I also don't plan on looking at the screen at all, really. So I'm not the target audience to comment

When we get back home and I pick up my Switch 2 tomorrow I will let you know. I have an OLED Splatoon Switch to compare with.ian wrote: Sat Jun 07, 2025 12:46 am Also when you're playing Mario kart, aside from your quick review of the game, let us know what you think of the screen (unless you're playing docked) I saw a couple of side by sides that make it look terrible next to the OLED... Re: Nintendo General Thread (Switch 2 announced)
I had a huge reply for both of you but my net crapped out right as I hit post.
But the revised one is: thank you.
You guys might be the difference between waiting for this current model to go to $300 or waiting for one with a better screen.
My playtime docked across all my switches combined was 20 hours odd (and more than that in a single session on the first day when I got my first one in handheld) so all the power in the world is useless to me if the screen on the 2 sucks.

At least 5 Switch 2 boxes out when I went to Asda for some shopping before work today, if I actually cared I may have picked one up but my Switch 1 rarely gets used so not sure it'd be worth it unless they get scarce so I could scalp it

Re: Nintendo General Thread (Switch 2 announced)
It looks like a perfectly cromulent system. Other than the price and the long release delay, I'd say Nintendo did a fine job.
