This was a joke at the time it was posted. But today I’m looking at AU to US conversions and debating if tariffs will make Zoidberg my best option.ian wrote: Thu Apr 03, 2025 2:40 am Maybe Zoidberg will send you one of the 20 he's already preordered :olol:

DR... You've done it again!
:rofl2:
I love it.
And with our poor dollar at the moment, the $700 AUD for the switch 2 is like 47 cents in USD right now... so even with shipping and a generous donation of hundreds to Zoidberg, it'll probably be half the price for you guys as getting a local one.

anyone else getting flashbacks to imorted SF2 being between £150-200? except this time it could be official policy rather than scalpers

Games have always been expensive. :owink:Hawq wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 4:33 am anyone else getting flashbacks to imorted SF2 being between £150-200? except this time it could be official policy rather than scalpers
Star Fox in 1993, Conkers Bad Fur day in 2001, and the Neo Geo from 1990 to 2004 all laugh at the notion games are becoming expensive. And that's just games in my lifetime.
I don't get when people say they're becoming expensive, they always have been. I'm of the opinion that a good game is worth paying for, but there are absolutely limits to even what someone as crazy as me will pay. And Nintendo is keen to test those limits, and it will pay off for them because other people will find $500usd for Mario kart perfectly fine.
If people think they're too expensive don't pay that much? Wait for a sale, or use a friend's account or hardware, or pirate it, or live without it, or buy it anyway so you can complain about the price. :olol:
Consoles and PC's have been too expensive for 5 years now, but that's only because there has been no new games worth the cost.
If the PC got Half Life 3 tomorrow, PC hardware suddenly wouldn't be expensive.
When the PS5 and Series X get GTA 6 neither will be too expensive.
The cost is worth it if the game is good. Always been that way since spacewar!
If you wanted to play spacewar! in 1960 you needed a US$120,000 PDP-1 computer just to do it.
With inflation to 2024 that's US 1,294,473.
Now we put that into AUD:
That's $2,050,649.
Or £1,013,048... For a single new release game.

I also think it's worth paying for, but it's still too expensive for me. :olol: I'm a cheapskate that loves to buy used hardware (and play backups whenever I can). I had to wait for an SNES and Genesis until the prices came down, and even then both systems were used. It got me conditioned to wait until prices were low—or as it was later in life—until the flashcarts/jailbreaks started showing up online. :olol: I also got caught up in SF2 fever when I saw a copy of New Challengers for ~$50 at the local used shop. $50 used for SF2:NC in 1996.ian wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 6:30 amI'm of the opinion that a good game is worth paying for [...]Hawq wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 4:33 am anyone else getting flashbacks to imorted SF2 being between £150-200? except this time it could be official policy rather than scalpers

I like the "cost per hour" rule and $2-3/hour is the top-end range for me (lower the better). I'll be unfair and use the full bundle price ($500) to see how many hours I'd have to play to get into that range.
If I played 200 hours of Mario Kart World, I'd get that cost per hour rate to $2.50. But it would take me about 2 years to reach that, using 2 hours/week as a average. Not too bad to get caught up in the thrill of buying a system at launch.

I like the cost per hour rule too, but I'd not be able to tell you what the biggest rip off I've ever bought has been. I do have a lot of games I've never touched... Steam and otherwise.pixel wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 7:39 am I like the "cost per hour" rule and $2-3/hour is the top-end range for me (lower the better). Launch wise and Nintendo wise, I feel like the Wii was a lot of money and had 5 hours of fun, but then I sold it so it cost me nothing to try. And then got another one years and years later after it was like their most successful selling single console ever.
The $330 I spent on the switch in 2019? And $65 on Breath of the wild would work out to be cents per hour for how much I played that single game.
The best cost per hour on systems would either be my 64, 360 or Dreamcast at probably less than 0.00000000000000000000001 cent per hour.
Now the 360 and the Dreamcast cost a lot more in every way across the console, games, accessories, subscriptions (to magazines and live gold) but I sank so many hours into each that the cost is essentially free.
I'm a very big fan of Mario Kart. and Donkey Kong. And Metroid. But I don't think any of them look like a killer app. In fact, I've played every single game in every series, I can live without them all for $700 at this point though.
