Got a DS multi game cart & an R4 complete with SD card in it that way, those didnt cost me anything due to not selling the dodgy things like all the bootleg dvd's I end up finding while sorting stuff
That's cool. A perk of the job.

Boxed Japanese Sega Dreamcast Maracas controller.

I know I'm too tall to use them properly, and there's 2 games they're actually useful for, but they were cheap.
Less than half what I paid for a set like 20 years ago.

I bought a Mega Drive 1 from Cashies for $95. It has 2x 3 button controllers, power but no video cable

Very nice. The video cable shouldn't be hard to get.

My brother went to Japan for a couple of weeks recently, so I have some things to add to this thread. Maybe tomorrow.

Yeah I've been looking online for some options, should be pretty cheap if I dont mind waiting. Might as well get a flash cart at the same time.

Maybe, if they're ok. If they're not, I'll just get a cable from Ali and look for other flash cart options

They are good. They are copies of the more expensive ones. You just need to check to see if they are based on newer ones or older ones, but even the older ones are fine.

Bought the usual bunch of Humble Bundles.

Got these from Temu for $4.50 each:

They are tin and surprisingly decent quality for the price

So, as I said earlier, my brother and his GF went to Japan recently. He got me a couple of things for my birthday and I paid A$100 for the rest.

Take about a third off for US prices.

BDay gift number 1:

Early in the trip he saw a working 3DO with controller for something like A$380, I didn't want him spending that much so I said look for a junk one when you go to another store. He found this one for A$80. I don't know what the problem is with it but if it's juts the lens then it's a cheap fix.

Still, it's nice to have a 3DO in the collection.

BDay gift number 2:

Image

A working DS Lite from a junk section for A$15. It was actually charged up when he opened it up at the store and still had some charge when I got it.

So I now have a DS phat, a DS Lite and a DSi.

This is stuff I paid for.

Image

A$33 for a grotty junk Famicom. Of course, in Japanese stores junk usually means untested and uncleaned, so it could work.

Image

A$22 for a grotty brown Super Famicom with 2 controllers. The controllers look alright.

Image

PSVR1 with processor unit for A$33. I think that was a pretty good deal.

I'll probably be going with him next time, so expect to see more old systems soon-ish.

Since you'll be in Japan, see if you can find us some more clear Dreamcast controllers for half decent prices, and in half decent condition while you're there. :owink:

A clear yellow VMU with cap and a yellow non millenium edition pad for less than $100 the pair would be particularly fantastic!

Also, you have the benefit of having a 3DO without having to play it! It's win win!

I don't know about clear controllers, but I was watching a video the other day of a guy at the opening of a new Hard Off and they had boxed working Dreamcasts for A$66. Also a Neo Geo CD for about A$100.

Those are sensible prices! You could get a lot of Neo Geo CD stuff, but not so much Neo Geo AES stuff. A single AES game would exceed your luggage allowance.

Also, while you're there, if you see a pristine condition white Saturn and matching 3D pads for similar money, bring me a couple of them too. thanks! by the time the pristine ones with no yellowing make it here, they're about $100-200 overpriced.

and if you make a second trip, after buying all the Sega Hardware for me, I've always wanted a spice orange GameCube with matching Gameboy player! But only if it's cheap.

This is why I can't go myself. I'd spend too much money on R31 Skylines and 90's Sega Hardware!

Japan has to run out of retro hardware eventually, right? It seems like the entire country is dotted with warehouses full of old video games.

I've been playing a DSi I bought secondhand, the DS Lite and DSi were great systems. I forgot about how great it feels to play one. It might be a touch small compared to today's monstrosities. But I also try playing a 3DS XL and my hands hurt after 15 minutes because the thing is so heavy.

The 3DO works. Sort of.

I don't have a controller or any games to test at the moment. The disc drive opens and then shuts itself straight away so that's an issue, but I'm just happy it starts up.

There ware still heaps of systems around for 7th gen and below.

I'll post some of the game store vids I've been watching in the video thread soon.

The DS is still a fun system. Lots of great games. Easy to use R4s on them.

I bought a few Anbernic RG35XX Plus handhelds as Christmas gifts. I'm planning to ticker with the OS and ROMs until December and then give them to my parents and siblings. $50 (plus SD cards and charger) was cheap enough for their intended purpose. Video games dropped off after the PS1 in my childhood home, so I think it'll be fun to gift a pocket system that can play older systems.

Pros:
- Controls feel great. Nice rubber membranes for the face buttons, triggers are easy to use.
- Build quality is nice. Plastics feel close to an original Game Boy.
- The stock OS worked better than I expected, and the ROMs are now focused on English-speaking customers.
- Screen looks great. 8-bit and 16-bit games look fantastic.

Cons
- Form factor is a little snug. I've gotten used to it while testing. It looked bigger on video.
- No analog controls. Doesn't bother me because I chose the DMG aesthetic over features.
- There's no clear winner for best operating system. Knulli (aka Emulation Station) has a lot of features but the in-game menu is just Retroarch. I don't mind Retoarch but I don't think the common person should have to suffer using that.

They should be fun presents for everyone.
