Help with DCDivx playback

Post by Roofus »

I have a movie I'm trying to play. It's 4K HDR with a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and it's stuttering pretty badly I set all the playback settings to low but I'm still only getting about two frames per hour. Any ideas on what I can do?

Encode it at 1440p and then use DC FSR to upscale it to 4K.

Zoidbergs suggestion is the best to watch movies cheaply, albeit with a bit of stuff around.

Best way is to buy the 4K playback kit.
Take out your stock modem or Broadband adaptor and replace it with the 4K card.

Don't worry, the 4K playback device also has a phone plug and ethernet port to keep your DC online.

Ok I got it working and the frame rate is good but it's running pretty hot. The case is starting to melt. Should I try to upgrade the cooling?

Try clearing the intake vents on the back of the console. The bottom vents and the output vents have no effect, and an upgrade won't be needed, just make sure those rear vents are fully clear.

What your gonna want to do is import the movie into Windows Movie Maker. Then save the movie at 426x240 at 500kbps. This should reduce the strain on your CPU processor allowing it to run at a lower temperature so your case will solidify.

Either that or just get yourself a nice VCD player with RCA outputs (S-video if you can swing it) Most movies will fit on as little as two compact discs with about the same or a bit less quality than you are used to with VHS. But you'll have the convenience of compact disc with no rewinding! I've heard rumors that the Sega Dreamcast video came console has VCD capabilities. Apparently there is some software that not only allows you to playback VCDs but also gives you a remote so you can pause, play,FF and even REW from a further distance!

This is fine for newer movies made past the 1990s. If it is a movie from the 90s or older I'd recommend you not fool with all that converting and just simplify things and find the title on Laserdisc. Be sure not to confuse Laserdisc with CED. Laserdisc is a high end optical format what uses lasers to convert 1s and 0s to audio and video. CED plays The Muppet Movie on a record player type machine.

Hope this helps!

I'm surprised you didn't buy the laserdisc add-on Cal.

I know they only sold about 5 of them, but at least they released them unlike the Zip Drive. I just assumed you would have been one of the 5.

I've been trying to find one for years. Been wanting to play the MegaLD remaster of Road Avenger.
