Red Dwarf co-creator teases all-new prequel: "We’re very excited"

Rob Grant announced the news at a BFI event on comedy and time travel.

Co-creator of the cult hit sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, Rob Grant, has announced that he is currently working on a brand new prequel project, to be called Red Dwarf: Titan.

Grant made the announcement during the BFI’s Comedy Time Travel Special, which took place as part of the institute's programme Destination Time Travel: Playing with Time in Film and TV.

Exactly what form the prequel will take, and whether it will be a novel or in some other format, is currently unconfirmed, but RadioTimes.com did catch up with Grant exclusively about the project.

He said: "I can’t say too much, but it’s a prequel and we’re very excited about it. Hopefully we’ll see it soon!"

This comes after a legal dispute over the rights to the show was resolved earlier this year, with the show's co-creators, Grant and Doug Naylor, both being able to continue working separately on Red Dwarf in different media.

A statement released earlier this year said: "Rob Grant and Doug Naylor are delighted to announce that the ongoing dispute over the Red Dwarf rights has been resolved.

"Moving onwards and upwards, Rob and Doug hope to launch separate iterations of Red Dwarf across various media, working again with the cast and other valued partners, and wish each other the very best.

"Smoke a kipper, Red Dwarf will be back for breakfast!!"

Shortly after this, Naylor said he thought the show was likely to return to screens at some point, adding that there's "real interest".

Naylor said: "Providing the boys are available, which isn’t the easiest thing because they’ve all got these mad schedules, especially Craig [Charles] and Robert [Llewellyn].

"But provided we can get everyone available and they do all want to be available, they want to make more, I think we’ve got a good chance."

Boooo Rob Grant... Boooo.
Leave the show because he doesn't want it to be the only thing on his tombstone, does fuck all else for 25ish years and then stopped Doug Naylor from making new ones.

Piss off you wanker.

All I can say about this, is that accidents happen.

Apparently the new ones aren't happening, and if they are, they have been delayed.

According to Craig Charles:
"I'm not sure that it will come back, to be honest. I know that the deal that we had to make it this year looks like that might not be happening now. I can't really say any more on that because I don't know much more, but I just know that there have been lots of conversations about cost, and I think [the episodes] might be too expensive"

I'm not linking to Radio times where he said that, only because their website is fucking cancer with aids covered in dogshit, but if true that makes me, and Mr. Flibble, very cross.

Should have told us what happened to Rimmer and ended on the high that Series 12 Offered.

Maybe it's time for a new spin off radio play that follows Jim and Bexley around we know what happens to Bexley eventually, but we could see how Jim goes on.

I finally say down with Promise Land. If the series doesn't come back, at least that was a good send off.
