A $200m mega flop. I don't know how it cost that much, it looked like cheap shit.

Re: Sony General Games Thread
I think the worst part is that it seems like a perfectly cromulent game but the presentation turned everyone off. There are people of color and non-traditional body types so it got caught up in the never-ending online discourse. The art style is definitely unique.
The gameplay looks fine, but not anything revolutionary. There are tons of hero shooters and online FPS games, so why would anyone pick this odd duckling? Don't forget that it cost $40 to buy the game, which doesn't sound bad but the whole market is saturated with free-to-play games.
On top of that, the team burned through $200M getting the damn thing launched and that took 8 years. Had it launched under a normal budget and without any big expectations, it probably would've turned out fine. But the budget, hype and discourse were so bloated that it all weighed the game down.
Maybe Sony is putting the clown show on hiatus for retooling? Take a little bit of time and kick it back out as a free to play?
Personally I sort of appreciate the game's aesthetic so it looks okay to me. But I'm so extremely against any of these live service games that the whole thing disgusts me. I don't want to be required to play a game each week because the storyline is tied to a schedule. It all sounds so tedious. I like games that I can turn on, play a bit in single player and maybe go online once in a while. One last comment, I miss custom servers so I never have to worry about some central service kicking the bucket.

I couldn't wait for all the people shitting on it on various social medias for the past few weeks to start droning on about game preservation.
Saw one on Facebook already.
Come on people, it was a shit game you never wanted to play in a million years, you're not missing anything by it being shut down. And all those other games getting shut down by their publishers and disappearing forever were shit as well, not everything is a god damn Super Mario 64 that needs to be preserved... You just want to be digital hoarders, admit it.

"Hey kids, want to see the biggest failure in gaming history?"
Videos of it are good enough preservation.

From all the reviews I’ve seen, it actually wasn’t a shit game, it was actually really good. Everyone that played it said the gameplay was there. The problem was that the gameplay was the only good thing about it. The stages were apparently boring, the characters looked like what AI would spit out if you asked it to make ultra-realistic versions of Fortnite fan art, and the whole package was about as barebones as you could get. Then if that’s not enough, they charged $40 when all of the competitors have been free-to-play for years.ian wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2024 8:33 am Come on people, it was a shit game you never wanted to play in a million years, you're not missing anything by it being shut down.

That is honestly still crazy to think about. This will be analyzed in YouTube videos for decades.
