Early Windows gaming was 1998?
When did that happen?
I always thought early Windows gaming was about 1985...
Sure, DOS was still the more popular way for people to play games on IBM and clone personal computers, but you could use a GUI to launch games if you wanted...

Re: Retro Gaming Thread
I've been playing Taxi 2 on Dreamcast.
Not Crazy Taxi 2, but the French only Taxi 2 based on a movie.
This game is hilarious! From the inspector gadget transforming Peugeot, to the terrible FMV's to the fish eye lense when driving to the horrible car graphics and ridiculously bad pop up and stretched photos as backgrounds all the way to the fact I can't understand a fucking thing that's happening.
I had a great time for all of 5 hours. I don't think I need to play this again, but it's so, so terrible and it's not even close to the Dreamcasts worst racing game. But I had quite a lot of fun even if for a short time...
Also, I've discovered the best reason for keeping CRT's around, even better than light gun games... Sonic shuffle looks like ABSOLUTE ASS on an LCD.
I cannot think of any single game I have EVER played that looks so bad on a modern panel. Across every single game I have ever played, none have or could ever look this dogshit.
You could take an original gameboy game at original resolution and stretch it 16:9 on a modern 65" 4K TV and it would still look better than sonic shuffle does on any of my devices, monitors and TV's made after 2006.
On a CRT, it's still not the best looking game ever, but it's not so terrible it will make your eyes bleed.
The game itself isn't as fun as I remember it being. It's a Mario party clone for anyone reading, and the last time I played it, I only had a CRT available to me.
Even though most DC games look better on any given CRT than any given NON CRT, they still look quite nice even with the incorrect display technology. Not Sonic Shuffle though, it's BAAAAAAD.
in other console and CRT related activity, finally got my PS2's fixed and working properly so am nearly ready for time crisis ilink games, as soon as I calibrate the TV's and get them into their corner.

I had it back on my C64GS & love the soundtrack more than the Amiga one, best version until I heard the PC Engine CD/FM Towns CD soundtrack

Episode 406 - Many game cartridges for the Famicom (Japanese version of the NES) featured extra chips that could provide extra channels of audio to enhance the games. Let's look at and listen to all of those games!

Who doesn't love a good brawler? In Fighting Force, you and up two three friends have a simple, four step strategy: break things, get weapons, use those weapons to pummel people, and repeat as needed. It's straightforward streetside carnage with a 3D flair, coming home to you in 2025 care of Limited Run Games.
A lost classic finally returns. Fear Effect challenged assumptions on game aesthetics and art style when it debuted on PlayStation, and decades later its extraordinary blend of cell-shading and motion video still dazzles the eye… and the mind. Gunplay and magic meet in this groundbreaking action/adventure coming to a console near you in 2025.
