Best free Antivirus, firewall etc.. for Win 10
Rather than trying to stick it in the new tech bits I'll put it here, using Comodo & Avast on my 7 machine these still a good choice for 10 or can you recomend a better free alternative? Also looking for something decent to remove partitions from a HDD in the old machine as even if its only a 2TB drive it'll add to the new PC, not sure what the best free thing to do it with is

I'm using Avast & Spybot. They're OK.
And there's this for partitions:
1. Right click on the Start menu.
2. Select Disk Management.
3. Right-click on the drive letter you want to delete and select Delete Volume. The partition will be deleted and the new free space will be unallocated.
Note: System partitions are protected and are not able to be deleted.

Or this which is the same but longer:

I just use Windows Defender and the firewall as part of Win10. Seems to do a good job. I'd also definitely add a spam blocker or a modified hosts file to stop unnecessary are too.

I got Avast & I think Spybot on 7 atm, guess I'll stick with them. As for the system partition being unkilable does that apply even after the drives no longer used as a boot one? I'd guess probably not but it could be a weird M$ thing I suppose. Just tryin to get all my ducks in a row before moving drives over to new machine.Dr. Zoidberg wrote:Note: System partitions are protected and are not able to be deleted.
I tried using EaseUS Partition Master to merge a couple of the smaller partitions & it seems to do the job, just took ages, maybe the built in Windows stuff will be quicker, just gotta rememer to move stuff onto my external drive so it speeds up taking the partitiion off, merged to 50GB (roughlt) ones earlier & it took about an hour with the data being still on them

I have no suggestions for free AV, but you absolutely need Malwarebytes. They have a free version that's manual scans only, but it will find more of the crap that would actually affect your computer than any AV will. You still need an AV for real viruses, but Malwarebytes sits along side your AV and takes care of the rest.
You too Zoidberg. Ditch Spybot and switch to Malwarebytes.

I have used Malwarebytes before and it was good. It got rid of some nasty shit that was causing my system some problems a few years ago.

I've used Malware Bytes and Spybot along side each other for years. I do a scan every few days typically. Never really picks anything up, which is either good because I don't have shit on my PC or bad because it's not finding the shit it should.

Haven't had antivirus in about 10 years, maybe more. Malwarebytes scan every couple weeks, and stay off the questionable areas of the web. Can't even remember the last time I had spyware or adware.

goddamnit 10 wont activate & now its forgotten the wireless network exists even conecting the cable has no effect & to top it all off after trying to update last night (when the network was working) it didnt install the damn updates it got, one of which seems to be the quick & easy activation one. Seems even with a genuine 7 key to go off it gets confused, says its already used or something but I thought that didnt matter for a new 10 machine, very confusing especially as I cant read up much about it, my mates coming on friday to try to sort it but any ideas to see if I can do anything before then

You can only use the serial on a certain number of systems or a certain number of times, so if you've used it a few times that could be the problem.
